CHAPTER 2:
Falun Gong

Falun Gong comes from the Buddhist practice known as “The Great Spiritual Way of the Falun,” and it is one type of Buddhist qigong spiritual practice. Yet it has certain unique features that set it apart from the more common Buddhist practices. Previously, this practice was an intensive and demanding system specially designed for and only available to learners with exceptional character and great inborn spiritual qualities. I thus went to great lengths to modify the practice and make it suitable for wider dissemination, so that it would be accessible to more qigong learners and meet the demands of those wishing to develop spiritually. Even with the changes made, the practice still far exceeds the typical offerings out there both in terms of what it provides, as well as its level.

What the Falun Does

The energy wheel in our practice, known as a “falun,” has the same unique qualities as the universe, and is a miniature reflection of the universe. Those who practice Falun Gong can not only swiftly develop higher energy and spiritual strength, but also, in a short span of time, develop a falun of tremendous might. The falun, once formed, is a living entity in its own right. Normally it will rotate, nonstop, of its own accord at the location of one’s lower abdomen, and constantly gather and refine energy from the universe. Ultimately this energy will be transformed into a higher form, called gong, inside one’s body. This then makes possible: “the practice does the work for you,” as we put it. This means that even if you can’t practice all day long, the falun will be constantly working to help you gain higher energy around the clock. The falun works inwardly to one’s own benefit: It fosters robust health as well as the development of one’s mind and wisdom, and guards against one’s going awry. It furthermore protects learners from meddling by people of poor character. The falun also works outwardly to the benefit of others: It can heal people and drive away evil influences, changing anything abnormal back to how it should be. The falun turns constantly at one’s lower abdomen, turning for nine revolutions forward (clockwise) before turning for nine revolutions in reverse (counterclockwise). While turning clockwise, it vigorously draws in great amounts of energy from the universe. Its rotational force will grow greater and greater as one’s spiritual strength increases, far surpassing what could be achieved by supposedly “gathering energy to pour through the top of the head.”5 While turning in reverse, it releases energy, which can benefit all living things. It can set right anything that isn’t how it should be. And anyone nearby can benefit from it. Falun Gong is the first and only practice in all of China where it can be said that “the practice does the work for you.”

The falun is priceless. It is worth more than its weight in gold. When my master was passing the falun on to me, I was told: “The falun cannot be given to just anyone. It is something that those who have done spiritual practice for over a millennium may desire, but cannot obtain.” In our practice system, it used to take a very, very long time, usually many generations, for the falun to be passed down to a single student. That is different from systems where it only takes a few decades to pass down the key teachings and methods to the next person. So it is exceptionally precious. Although this modified version, which is made available to the public, isn’t as powerful as the original one, it is still incredibly precious. Just coming to have a falun means that you are halfway there on the spiritual journey. All that is left to do is perfect your character, and great spiritual heights will await you. That being said, those who do not have the destiny for it tend to give up the practice after a while, and will lose the falun originally given to them.

Falun Gong is a Buddhist method of practice, but goes well beyond the usual scope of Buddhist practice. It covers the entire universe. Historically, Buddhist practices have only taught Buddhist tenets, and Daoist practices have only taught Daoist ones. Neither has fully explained the universe, at a more fundamental level. The universe is similar to a human being, in that it has not only a physical structure but also its own spirit. The latter can be summed up in just three words: zhen, shan, ren.6 Daoist practice focuses on realization of the zhen aspect, and so it teaches adherents to speak and act truthfully, to become as pure and innocent as they originally were, and to ultimately become a truly realized being. Buddhist practice lays emphasis on the shan aspect, and so it teaches adherents to develop great compassion and help free all lives from suffering. In our discipline we work on zhen, shan, and ren at the same time, and practice according to the very qualities of the universe. This allows you to ultimately become one with the universe itself.

Falun Gong is a practice of both mind and body. And so, when your spiritual strength and character have progressed to a certain point, you will inevitably attain spiritual enlightenment (and the restraints on your powers will be lifted) while still part of this secular world, and attain an immortal body. Generally speaking, Falun Gong has two major stages of practice: that within the Three Realms, and that beyond. For those who aspire to spiritual development, I hope that you will practice diligently and refine your character unceasingly, so that you will achieve spiritual perfection.7

The Falun’s Form and Makeup

The falun of Falun Gong is a rotating entity of high-energy matter that has an intelligence of its own. It rotates according to the laws of motion governing the entire cosmos. In a sense, you could call it a microcosm of the universe.

In the center of the falun is what’s known in Sanskrit as the swastika symbol, 卍.8If one looks it up in a Chinese dictionary, one will find that its original meaning is, “where good fortune gathers.” It forms the core of the falun, and its color is similar to gold. The background color behind it is a bright red. In the outer ring the background color is orange. The four taiji9 symbols and the four falun, which are Buddhist, are arranged in alternating fashion, and are positioned in eight directions, as with a compass. The taiji with red and black are Daoist, while those with red and blue are from the Great Way of the Prior Heavenly Realm. The four smaller falun are also golden. The background color cycles among red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. The falun’s colors are rather attractive (as you can see from the image at the front of the book). The colors of the swastika 卍 as well as the taiji do not change. The larger and smaller wheels spin, as does the central swastika 卍 symbol. The falun’s roots are planted in the universe, and so it rotates just as does the universe and its galaxies. Those whose third eyes are open at a lower plane see the falun spinning much like an electric fan. Those whose third eyes are open at a higher plane see the falun in full detail, and it is very beautiful and bright. Seeing it will likely spur people to greater diligence in their practice.

What Sets Falun Gong Apart

The Spiritual Practice Does the Work for You

Students of Falun Gong are not only able to quickly strengthen their spiritual strength and abilities, but also develop a falun. The time it takes to form a falun is short. And once formed, its power is great. It can protect you from going awry as well as protect you from meddling by people of poor character. The way this practice works is nothing like conventional practices. There are several reasons for this. The falun rotates nonstop after forming. It is a living entity with an intelligence of its own, and so it constantly brings energy into one’s lower abdomen every day. The falun absorbs energy from the universe of its own doing, by rotating. And precisely because it does so, nonstop, it achieves the goal of “the practice doing the work for you.” Meaning, it will keep doing the work of practicing on your behalf, even when you are not doing our exercises. As we all know, people have to work by day and rest at night, and the time for doing an energy practice is very limited. If one wishes to practice around the clock, it’s not enough to just think of practicing all the time, or other tricks like that. It’s highly unlikely one could achieve the goal of practicing around the clock that way. The falun, however, turns unceasingly and brings in vast amounts of qi (a raw form of energy) from the universe as it turns clockwise, inwardly. It turns like this twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. It never ceases to transform the energy that it has taken in and stored up, which it does in all of its subunits. It converts this qi energy into a higher form of matter, which, eventually, transforms in one’s body into a higher energy known as gong. That’s what we mean by “the practice doing the work for you.” Falun Gong’s approach to spiritual development is nothing like those of the qigong schools and disciplines that rely on dan, i.e., “energy clusters.”

A distinguishing feature of Falun Gong is that it takes the approach of developing a falun, rather than energy clusters. The approach of energy clusters is what basically every variety of practice that’s available to the public nowadays takes—be it those in the Buddhist or Daoist religions, Buddhist or Daoist energy practices, non-religious types, or alternative methods. And so these are categorized as energy-cluster practices. That’s the approach used in the spiritual systems of Buddhist monks, nuns, and Daoist priests. When they are cremated after passing away, often there are bead-shaped relics, called sarira. Scientific instruments can’t determine at present what these are made of. But they are hard and beautiful. They are actually composed of high-energy matter gathered from other dimensions of existence. They are not objects of this world. They are remnants of one’s energy clusters. But anyone whose practicerelies on energy clusters is going to have a terribly hard time achieving spiritual enlightenment in one lifetime. Many in the past who used that approach had to raise their energy cluster up in the body, but once it was raised to the Niwan Palace position, or pineal gland area, oftentimes it could move no further and would get stuck there. Some people who found themselves in this situation wanted to rupture it, but they couldn’t break it open no matter how they tried. And then there have been scenarios like the following. There would be someone who didn’t achieve the goal of practice at the end of his life.So he would spit out the energy cluster and pass it down to his son. Then his son wouldn’t achieve the goal of practice at the end of his life, either, so he would pass it down to the grandson. Then the grandson might practice for many years, yet achieve nothing. That’s how difficult it is to take that approach. Of course, I don’t mean to discount the many good practices out there that use that method. It’s a rather significant thing if something genuine is taught to a person. My reservation would just be that he might not have been taught anything very advanced.

Working Upon Your Conscious Mind

Every person has a rational, conscious mind. And it is this mind that people usually utilize when doing things or thinking things over. Along with this, each person additionally has one, or more, secondary consciousnesses; and furthermore, one’s mind might be shaped by factors that were passed down through family lines. A human being’s conscious mind and secondary consciousnesses assume the same name as the person. Generally speaking one’s secondary consciousness is more capable than the former, and its spiritual origin is higher. It is not misled by the illusions of this world, and can perceive certain other dimensions. Many spiritual disciplines take the approach of working upon this secondary consciousnesses. In these instances one’s body and conscious mind only serve as a vessel. Oftentimes those who adopt these practices aren’t aware of this scheme, and take great pride in the discipline. It’s very hard for someone living in this world to let go of material things, particularly the things that one is attached to. And that is why many practices require the use of trance. Their adherents have to enter into a full-on state of trance, and it will be in that state that spiritual transformation happens. But it will be the secondary consciousness that is undergoing the change, in an alternate world, and it will be it that is elevating spiritually. On the day the secondary consciousness achieves the final goal in spiritual practice, it will take off with all the higher energy, and leave nothing for the primary consciousness and its physical body. All those years of practice that the person put in are for naught, as such. It’s really pitiable. There are some masters of qigong who enjoy great renown and have impressive powers. But, little do they know, it is not in theirown bodies that the higher energy resides.

Our practice of Falun Gong is tailored specifically to improve your conscious mind, by contrast, and ensures that the higher energy you develop is solidly anchored to your own body. Of course, your secondary consciousness will naturally gain its own share of energy from you, and elevate spiritually in tandem. Our practice places strict demands upon your moral character. It has you temper your character in the most challenging of settings—the human world—and develop spiritually amidst it. You will emerge from it like the lotus flower,10 rising from the mud. It is this trying setting that makes your spiritual achievement possible. And this is what makes Falun Gong so valuable—it is you yourself who gains from it. But that said, it is extremely difficult. The difficulty lies in the approach we take, of having you perfect yourself in the most challenging of environments possible.

Since the goal in our discipline is to develop one’s own, conscious mind, you should ensure that your conscious mind is in charge at all times when you are practicing. It has to be the conscious mind that is in charge. You shouldn’t hand over control to your secondary consciousness. Otherwise, one day, when it ascends to a higher plane, it will take away any higher energy that you have, and leave nothing for your own body and conscious mind. If you want to progress to great spiritual heights, you mustn’t let your mind drift off into a sleep-like trance, to the degree that you don’t even know what you are doing. You really need to be aware that you are practicing, progressing, and elevating. Only then will it be you who is in control, and you who is gaining the higher energy from the process. There are sometimes moments in life where one is able to complete a task absentmindedly, without even knowing exactly how one did it. That is in fact one’s secondary consciousness at work, and it is it that’s in command at those times. Let me give another example. While sitting in meditation you might see another figure that looks just like you, sitting across from you. That figure is your secondary consciousness. To give a contrasting example, suppose you are sitting in meditation facing North, and you suddenly find that your consciousness has moved to the North side, and you wonder how you went out of your body. In that case, it is the real you that went out. What’s left sitting in the original location is your physical body along with your secondary consciousness. You can distinguish the two entities this way.

You should not lose self-awareness while you are doing the exercises of Falun Gong. That’s not consistent with how our practice is done. It is imperative that your mind stay in charge while practicing. By keeping your awareness a bit stronger while you practice, you can prevent things from going awry, and in normal situations bad things won’t be able to attack or harm you. By contrast, those whose conscious minds are quite weak are prone to certain things gaining possession of them.

No Constraints for Time or Direction

Many practices stress the importance of facing in a certain direction while practicing, or of practicing at certain times of day. But these things are not relevant to us. The practice of Falun Gong is based on the universe’s defining qualities and the principles behind the universe’s transformations. So there is no need to concern oneself with things as minor as directions and times of day. When one does our practice, it is equivalent to sitting on top of a falun and facing in all directions, since it is always revolving and in sync with the universe. And besides, how is one to pinpoint North, South, East, or West when the universe and Milky Way are in motion, the planets of our solar system are revolving around the sun, and Earth itself is rotating? The distinction among North, South, East and West is just an earth-centered perspective by people living on this planet. Yet with our practice, you are doing the equivalent of facing in all directions, no matter which direction you might be facing.

Some people stress the importance of practicing around the midnight hour, around midday, or at some other time. But those too are not relevant to us. That is because the falun will be working on your behalf even when you are not physically practicing. It will be working around the clock, helping you to achieve the effect of practicing—that is, having the practice do the work for you. Other practices that take the approach of forming an energy cluster are reliant upon the individual himself to do the work, whereas in Falun Gong the practice does the work for you. If you have more time, you can practice more; if you have less time, you can practice less. It’s quite flexible.

A Practice for Both Mind and Body

The practice of Falun Gong develops both one’s mind and body. One’s physical body is developed via the exercises we do. The body is not something we forgo,11 so both one’s conscious mind and physical body are worked on together, and are perfected as one whole in our practice.

How the Body Is Transformed

A person’s body is composed of flesh, blood, and bones, which have different molecular structures and elements. Our exercises have the ability to change a person’s physical makeup at the molecular level into one of high-energy matter. With this kind of change, one’s body will no longer be made up of the same material it originally was. It will have undergone a transformation in its very substance. However, we do our practice out in the regular world and live alongside everyone else. Our disrupting the human condition is not something that would be allowed. So the kind of transformation that you undergo will not change the molecular structure of your body; the molecular sequence and arrangement won’t change. Rather, it will be the elements making up your molecules that change. Your flesh will still be soft to the touch, your bones hard, and your blood fluid; and you would still bleed if cut by a knife. The ancient Chinese doctrine of the Five Elements holds that all physical things are made up of the elements of metal, wood, water, fire, and earth. And so too is the human body. When one’s body has undergone the kind of substantive change I’ve described, with high-energy matter replacing the elements making up one’s molecules, it will no longer be made of the same matter it once was. This is the idea behind the concept of “transcending the Five Elements.”

The most notable feature of practices for both mind and body is that they extend one’s life and slow aging. Our Falun Gong has this distinctive quality. Our practice’s approach is to change the molecular elements of your body on a fundamental level, and to store in your cells the high-energy matter that you amass. And ultimately this will come to replace the matter that makes up your cells, and your body will no longer undergo the processes of decline and turnover as before. It will have “transcended” the Five Elements. It will have become a body composed of matter from other dimensions, and will no longer be subject to the limitations of this dimension and time. With this, you will stay young forever.

Many eminent Buddhist monks in different eras of history have lived long lives. Even today there are individuals who are hundreds of years old living among us, though, if you encountered one, you wouldn’t be able to tell. They look quite young and dress no differently from others. So you can’t distinguish them from others. The human lifespan isn’t meant to be as short as it is now. Even current scientific thinking holds that people should have the potential to live for over two hundred years. And historical records bear this out. A man in England by the name of Thomas Carn is reported to have lived to be 207 years old, while someone in Japan by the name of Mitsu Taira allegedly lived to be 242. In China during the Tang Dynasty there was a monk named Hui Zhao who is said to have lived to be 290. According to the county annals of Yong Tai, in Fujian province, China, an individual named Chen Jun was born in 881 AD, during the reign of Emperor Xi Zong in the Tang Dynasty, yet didn’t pass away until 1324 AD, during the Yuan Dynasty, at the age of 443 years old. In each of these cases there are records attesting to it. These aren’t just tall tales. It’s common for those who do Falun Gong to notice many anti-aging effects, such as a reduction in facial wrinkles, the skin glowing with health, and the body feeling light and energetic—even after doing physical work. I have practiced for decades myself, and others often comment that I haven’t visibly aged in the past twenty years. That’s exactly because there are powerful life-extension qualities built into Falun Gong. Those who practice it typically look a lot younger than others, younger than their actual age. In other words, a significant feature of mind-body practice is its anti-aging effect; meaning, its ability to slow the aging process and extend one’s life.

The Falun Cosmic Orbit

The human body is a microcosm of the universe. Thus, a complete cycle of energy movement throughout one’s body is referred to as a microcosmic circulation, or “cosmic orbit.” The well-known circulation connecting the ends of the Controlling Vessel (front-center) and Governing Vessel (back-center) energy channels is only a skin-deep, superficial cosmic orbit, as viewed in terms of spiritual practice from a higher plane. It cannot extend one’s life. The first true type of cosmic orbit that people normally develop, which is referred to as a “Minor” Cosmic Orbit, comes about when energy circulates inside the body from the Niwan Palace down to the body’s energy center, or dan-tian, and back up again. This internal circulation expands outward, over time, driving the energy circulation of and opening up of the hundreds of energy channels in one’s body. Our approach in Falun Gong, by contrast, is to activate energy circulation in all of the human body’s channels right from the beginning.

What is known as the “Major” Cosmic Orbit involves energy circulating around one’s body through the Eight Extraordinary Meridians.12 Activation of the Major Cosmic Orbit will bring one to a special state, in which one can levitate, or what Chinese alchemical texts refer to as “levitating and flying up in broad daylight.” That said, more typically some part of your body will be locked down and the ability to levitate disabled. Nevertheless, you will still experience a lightness to your body, such that you can walk fast and climb easily, as if someone were pushing you uphill. In addition, activation of the Major Cosmic Orbit will bring about a special ability such that you can mobilize the qi in your internal organs. The qi in the heart may be moved to the stomach, for instance, and the stomach’s qi to the intestines. And when enhanced by your growing spiritual strength, this ability can be projected outside the body, resulting in the ability of telekinesis. This form of cosmic orbit is referred to as a “longitudinal” cosmic orbit, or the “orbiting of heaven and earth.” But energy circulation in this cosmic orbit alone cannot serve the ultimate goal of transforming the body. Circulation has to also happen in another cosmic orbit, which is perpendicular to it, that is referred to as a “latitudinal” cosmic orbit. In this case, energy circulates beginning from either the Gathering of Yin acupuncture point or the Hundred Convergences point,13 and proceeds along the borderline of yin and yang, i.e., on the side of the body.

The cosmic orbits that are formed in Falun Gong are much more expansive than the Eight Extraordinary Meridians utilized in common spiritual practices. Ours involve energy movement throughout the extensive crisscrossing network of energy channels, all of which must be opened and activated for circulation at the same time. Falun Gong is equipped with tools to activate your cosmic orbits, so it’s not necessary for you to try to guide energy with your thoughts or intention. In fact, doing so would be considered wrong in our practice. During our classes I provide you with energy mechanisms on the outside of your body. Once in place, they start to promote the circulation of energy by themselves. Under normal circumstances, these mechanisms are reserved for advanced stages of spiritual practice. They are one of the factors that make it possible for our practice to occur automatically. The mechanisms turn perpetually, just as does the falun, driving the circulation of energy throughout the channels in your body. And this is true even for those who have never done a practice before that involves cosmic orbits; energy will still be brought to circulation throughout your energy channels, spanning the vertical as well as horizontal ones, located deeper inside your body as well as near the surface. Our cosmic orbit exercise is used to specifically strengthen the mechanisms on the outside of your body.

Opening the Energy Channels

The purpose of opening one’s energy channels is to allow energy to circulate through them. This, in turn, changes the composition of one’s cells into high-energy matter. The channels of those who don’t practice tend to be congested, and the passageways can even be quite narrow. The channels of those who do practice tend to be filled with energy and look brighter over time. And places that were blocked will open up. The channels of those who practice regularly will widen, while those of individuals who progress to greater spiritual heights will grow wider; some people’s will be as wide as a finger. But having free-flowing channels does not by itself signify what level someone has reached spiritually, or how great one’s energy is. Through our practice, one can brighten and broaden one’s channels to the point where they are eventually merged into one unified whole. With that, one will no longer have individual channels or acupuncture points in the body. Or to put it another way, the whole body will be canvassed with energy channels and points. But this still doesn’t mean that one has attained spiritual perfection. Rather, this is but one phenomenon, at one stage, that comes about in the course of practicing Falun Gong. At this point one will have reached the pinnacle of practice in the Three Realms. With it will come about a spiritual phenomenon that’s quite distinct in its appearance. Namely, what is known as “three flowers gathered at the crown of the head.” One’s powers have to be very strong for this to occur, and they will assume various forms and shapes. One’s energy column will reach to a great height, and on top of the head there will be three flowers. One will resemble a lotus flower and another a chrysanthemum. Each of the three will be turning, and as a whole they will be revolving atop the head. A column will be visible on top of each of the flowers, extending far up into the sky. The three columns will be revolving in tandem with the flowers, as well as turning on their own. The individual may experience a sensation of a heavy weight on top of his head as a result. When this takes place, it’s only an indication that the individual has finished the last step of spiritual development in the Three Realms.

Thoughts and the Mind

There are no specific mental exercises involved in Falun Gong. The mind is not that powerful, as it turns out. But, it can issue commands to the special powers one has, which are what really make things happen. They are conscious entities with the capacity to receive and put into action orders issued by the brain. But even so, a lot of people—and especially in the qigong community—have all sorts of ideas about thoughts and the mind, and believe that these have the ability to accomplish many things. Some believe that thought alone can develop one’s special powers, open the third eye, do healings, move objects, and so on. But that’s a misunderstanding of it. Here in the secular world, if one is spiritually underdeveloped, one’s thoughts can only command one’s sensory organs and limbs. Yet for the spiritually accomplished, their thoughts will have elevated such that they can command their powers to get something done. In other words, their powers respond to the dictates of their minds. And that is our take on the role that thoughts and the mind have. You may have seen cases where an energy healer performs healing, and the patient claims to be healed, though the healer doesn’t even lift a finger. And you might think that it’s his mind that makes the healing happen. But what really happens is that he is mobilizing the special powers he has and directing them with his mind to perform the healing or whatever else. These powers travel in other dimensions not observable to the uninitiated, and so people mistakenly think that the mind is what did it. Some people thus claim that the mind can heal, and they have led people off track with this understanding. So this needs to be cleared up.

A person’s thoughts are a kind of information medium, a type of energy, and materially exist. When someone is thinking, a brain wave of certain frequencies is generated. And sometimes reciting a mantra or invocation can be effective. But why is that? The universe has its unique vibrational frequencies. So when the invocation resonates with the universe’s frequencies, it will do something significant. Of course, the intention has to be good for the invocation to be effective, for the universe would not be allowing evil things to be done. Thought-generation is a type of mental process. Highly spiritually accomplished masters have spiritual bodies, which are under the control and direction of their own thoughts. But these bodies have the ability to think on their own, and have the capacity to deal with things independently. Each has a completely separate identity. Yet these spiritual bodies are aware of their master’s thoughts, and will do things according to his will. For example, if a spiritual master intends to heal someone, his spiritual bodies will be directed to perform healing on that patient. Without the master’s direction, they would not approach the patient. Nevertheless, when the spiritual bodies see something that could have an extremely good end result, they themselves will take the initiative to do it. Usually when a master hasn’t reached a fully enlightened stage, he won’t know the end result of certain potential actions. Yet his spiritual bodies will.

Another form of thought is what’s called “inspiration.” Inspiration is not the product of one’s conscious mind. One’s conscious mind is quite limited in what it knows. One needs more than just one’s conscious mind to think up something that would be new for the world. Inspiration comes from one’s secondary consciousness, rather. To illustrate it, just picture someone working on a creative endeavor, or on scientific research, who is wracking his brain but not coming up with anything. So he decides to take a break, and steps outside for a stroll. And then, out of the blue, some stroke of inspiration comes to him, and he’ll quickly jot it down. That’s how something new often comes about. What happened was that his conscious mind was firmly in charge before the break, and stifling any would-be new ideas. It was only when it relaxed that his secondary consciousness was able to come into play, and dictate his thoughts. That consciousness exists in another dimension, and it is not subject to the limitations of this world. So it can arrive at new ideas and approaches. But it is not allowed to come up with things that would go beyond this world or alter how it is and its pre-ordained course.

Yet there are two sources of inspiration, as it turns out. One, as I was just describing, is the secondary consciousness. Since it isn’t blinded by this world, it is capable of providing inspiration. The other is higher spiritual beings, who might bestow guidance or ideas upon a person. When that happens, the person will be able to think outside the box, and do groundbreaking things never done before. Everything that unfolds in this world follows certain blueprints that are in place. And this holds true for the entire universe, as well. Nothing is in fact by chance.

The Level at Which Falun Gong Is Practiced

Practice of a Higher Order

Falun Gong is spiritual practice of a higher order, and so you will develop higher energy rapidly. It has few movements overall,as such. Yet these ensure various facets of the spiritual development of the body and are responsible for the many things we are supposed to develop. As long as your character develops on pace, your energy level will soar upwards. There’s no need to purposely go to great lengths practicing, to utilize special methods, or to set up a virtual furnace and gather substances meant for immortality, like in internal alchemy, where one has to attend the fire closely and replenish ingredients frequently. The approaches that involve directing things with the mind are complicated, and are prone to going wrong. By contrast, what we offer you is the most convenient type of practice—the best approach—although it is also the hardest. In other practices it takes more than ten years, or even decades, or longer, to achieve a translucent white body. Yet we get you to that point in no time. And before you have even sensed what’s happening—after just a few hours, perhaps—you will have already moved on to the next stage. For example, out of the blue one day, you might feel particularly sensitive to everything, only to return to normal shortly after. Simple as it may seem, you will have just passed a major milestone in your spiritual development.

The Forms That Higher Energy Takes

After proper adjustments, your body will be suitable for the advanced spiritual practice of Falun Gong. That means your body will have reached the state of a translucent white body. It wouldn’t be possible to develop higher energy without this kind of priming. Those whose third eyes are open at higher planes might observe that this energy first comes about on the surface of one’s body, only to later be drawn into the interior of the body. It then develops again on the surface of the body, is drawn inside again, and so on, repeating again and again, as one progresses through different stages of practice—some of which pass quite quickly. What I’ve been describing is the first phase of energy development. By the time this phase is completed, one’s body will be exceptional and have achieved a translucent white body, and will no longer fall ill. Though one might still experience pain here or there, or unpleasant sensations, those will not be from ailments, even if they seem to be the same. It is one’s karma acting up. During the second phase of energy development, the conscious entities one has formed will have grown large in size. They will be able to move and communicate. In some cases they are few and far between, while in other cases they are so numerous that they’re tightly packed together. And they can talk to one another. Great amounts of energy are stored up in these conscious entities, and they will be utilized to transform one’s body.

When highly advanced stages of Falun Gong practice are reached, in some cases cherubs will be developed in one’s body. And there might be so many of them that they appear all throughout the body. They are by nature rascally, playful, and kindly. Another type of body that might come about is an angelic body. It will sit atop a lotus platform, and it is beautiful to behold. An angelic body that is developed through spiritual practice comes from the union of yin and yang energies in one’s body. So whether someone is male or female, one can develop the angelic body regardless. The angelic body will be quite small at first. It will gradually grow in size, until the point where it’s approximately the same size as one’s body. And in terms of appearance, it will be the same as you, and reside inside the body. People with extrasensory powers might catch sight of it, and remark that the person has two bodies. But this newly formed body should be thought of as one’s true body. Along with this body, one will also develop numerous spiritual bodies. All told, every power known to the universe is possible through Falun Gong, as are any powers known to other practices.

Practice Beyond the Three Realms

Those who practice will widen their energy channels, as I described. These will continually widen, to the point where they merge into one integrated whole; this means that one’s body will no longer have independent energy channels or acupuncture points. Or from another angle, you could say that everywhere on the body are interconnected channels and acupuncture points. But this doesn’t mean that one has completed the spiritual journey. Rather, this is but one phenomenon, at one stage, that comes about in the course of practicing Falun Gong. At that point one has reached the pinnacle of practice within the Three Realms. One’s energy will be truly remarkable, and assume certain forms and shapes; one’s energy column will reach to great heights; and on top of one’s head there will appear the three flowers. But this will only mean that one has reached the zenith of practice within the Three Realms.

Once a person advances to the very next phase, he will no long have any of what he had previously developed, and all of the energy that was developed before will have been unloaded into a very deep dimension. His body will be left clean, or what’s referred to as a body “as clear as crystal.” His body will have become transparent. With further spiritual progress, he will advance to the stage of practice beyond the Three Realms. This is also known as the phase where energy is developed upon one’s divine body. The energy that one develops at that point will be divine in nature. One’s powers will be unlimited and have enormous strength. What awaits one, upon reaching still higher realms, will be spiritual enlightenment and divinity. But all of this depends on how one develops one’s mind and character. One’s degree of divinity is a direct reflection of one’s spiritual achievement. What awaits those who follow the Way with great determination is none other than spiritual perfection and divine standing.
