The Falun and Falun Gong
Student: What is the falun made up of?
Teacher: The falun is an intelligent entity that is made up of high-energy matter, and it has the ability to develop what’s known as higher energy, or gong, all by itself. It exists in a different dimension from ours.
Student: What does the falun look like?
Teacher: The falun’s color can only be approximated as golden yellow; we don’t have the exact color in this dimension. The background color of the inner ring is a bright red, while the background color of the outer ring is orange. There are two red-and-black taiji symbols, which are Daoist, and two red-and-blue taiji symbols that are from the Great Way of the Prior Heavenly Realm. They are from two different systems. The swastika symbol (卍) is golden yellow. People whose third eyes are open at a lower plane will only see the falun appearing as a fast-spinning electric fan, and the details are blurred. Those who are able to observe the details of its structure will see that it’s really a sight to behold, such that it inspires them to work more devoutly and diligently at their spiritual practice.
Student: Where is the falun initially located? Where is it located later on?
Teacher: I really only give you one falun. It is located at the lower abdomen, the same spot where the energy cluster I spoke of is developed and kept. It stays at the same location. Some people can see many falun spinning in and around their bodies. Those are extrinsic falun that are being used by my spiritual bodies to mend your body.
Student: Can a falun be formed by doing the exercises and spiritual practice? How many of them can be developed? Would there be any difference between these and the one that you give us?
Teacher: Falun can be developed by doing our exercises and spiritual practice. As your gong energy increases in strength, more and more falun will develop in and around your body. They will be just like the original one. The only difference will be that the original falun, located at your lower abdomen, doesn’t move about since it is the anchoring one.
Student: How can a person come to sense and see the falun and its rotation?
Teacher: There is no reason to try to sense or see it. Some people just happen to be sensitive, and will sense its turning. In the initial phase after the falun has been installed in you, you might not be used to having it in your body, and might have abdominal discomfort, have a sensation of something moving, a sensation of warmth, or other things. But once you get accustomed to it you won’t sense it anymore. People with extrasensory abilities may be able to see it, however. You can think of it as being like your stomach: when digestion is taking place, you aren’t aware of the motion involved.
Student: The direction in which the falun rotates on the pins we wear isn’t the same as on the class tickets (for the first and second series of classes in Beijing). The one printed on the tickets turns counterclockwise. Why is that?
Teacher: The goal is to do something beneficial for you. The falun emits energy outwardly when it turns that way, and it rebalances people’s bodies. That is why it isn’t turning clockwise and you see it turning the other way.
Student: When is the right time for you to install the falun for us?
Teacher: I’d like to mention something here. We have some learners who have done a lot of different practices, and what’s challenging is that we have to clear out of their bodies all of the lousy things that are cluttering them up; what’s good is preserved and what’s bad is disposed of. So in their case an extra step is entailed. Then a falun can be bestowed. The size of the falun that’s given to a person depends on how spiritually developed he or she is. Another scenario is where people have never done an energy practice before, and have a fairly good spiritual makeup. And so their ailments can be done away with when we rebalance their bodies during our classes; they advance past the stage of qi energy, and begin the stage where one has what is known as a “pristine white body.” In that case I can install the falun for them right away. And then there are a number of people whose bodies are in terrible condition, and I have been rebalancing their bodies all this time. Obviously a falun cannot be given to them before that process is complete. These people are in the minority, though. But even for them there’s nothing to worry about, because I have given them the energy mechanism that’s needed for developing a falun in them.
Student: How is the falun mounted in us?
Teacher: It’s not mounted. I send forth a falun and place it at your lower abdomen. This doesn’t take place in this physical dimension, however, but a different one. It would be quite a problem if the falun were to spin in this dimension, given that there are intestines in your abdomen! It is in another dimension and won’t pose any problem here.
Student: Will you continue to give out falun in your next class?
Teacher: You will get only one. Some people sense that many falun are turning in and around their bodies, but those are extrinsic ones and are used for rebalancing your body. A prominent feature of our practice is that an energy release is accompanied by strings of falun. So before you even start to do the practice, you will already have many falun spinning in and around your body doing the rebalancing work. The falun that is truly given to you is the one located at the lower abdomen.
Student: Does the falun vanish if one stops doing the exercises for a while? How long will it take for it to go away?
Teacher: As long as you regard yourself as a practitioner and strive to develop your character as I’ve taught, the falun will not only not vanish, but be strengthened during the time when you’re not doing the exercises. And your spiritual strength will grow as well. But if, say, you instead do the exercises more than everyone else but fail to follow my guidance on character development, your exercises will likely be done in vain. Even though you’re doing the exercises they won’t do anything for you. One’s practice is probably off base, whatever the discipline, if one doesn’t put its teachings into practice. Suppose your mind is occupied with bad stuff and you’re thinking things like, “So-and-so is just awful. I’ll get my revenge once I get some powers.” Then, when you are having thoughts like those, and not doing as we’ve taught, isn’t your practice off-track—even if it’s Falun Gong that you’re learning?
Student: Mr. Li, you have often said, “Spending even $100 million won’t buy you a falun.” What is meant by that?
Teacher: It means that it is incredibly valuable. And I give you more than just a falun: I give other things as well, which facilitate your spiritual progress, and they are precious. All of them are priceless.
Student: Can people who missed the first few classes still get a falun?
Teacher: As long as you come during the time before the last three days, your body can still be rebalanced, and a falun, along with many other things, can be installed. If you come just for the last three days, though, it’s hard to say what you will get; but your body will still be adjusted, at least. It wouldn’t be easy to place things in the body, though. But it might still be possible if you are in good spiritual shape.
Student: Is the falun the only thing used to fix whatever is wrong with the body?
Teacher: We don’t rely solely on the falun. I use many methods to correct things.
Student: What is the backstory surrounding Falun Gong’s creation in prehistory?
Teacher: That is a huge question you are asking, and it’s a bit too advanced. It goes beyond the scope of what people on this plane are supposed to know, so I can’t discuss it here. But there is one thing you should know: this is not a form of religious Buddhist qigong, but rather, qigong that belongs to the larger Buddhist system of practices. It’s not part of religious Buddhism. We do share in the same goal as Buddhism, though. It’s just that our spiritual disciplines are different; they are two distinct paths. But the goal is the same.
Student: How long has Falun Gong been around for?
Teacher: The system of practice that I trained in is a little different from the one I made public. The falun that I developed in myself is more powerful than the one I bestow, and energy developed faster in that system. But the practice I’ve made public still allows you to develop higher energy quickly, so the expectations for your character are higher than is typical. The practice that I’ve made public has been reworked, and is less demanding than the one I did. But it’s still more demanding than most. I am referred to as its “founder,” since the practice is different from what it originally was. As for how long Falun Gong has been around for, if you don’t count the years before it was made public, you could say it began last May (in 1992). That’s when I started teaching it, in northeastern China.
Student: What is given to those of us who are here attending?
Teacher: I give a falun to all of you. There is the falun for your spiritual development and others for adjusting your body. Along with this, my spiritual bodies will be looking after each and every one of you, provided that you do our practice. Of course, they won’t look after you if you don’t do the practice, even if they were told to—since they can see your intentions clearly, and will know whether you are sincere.
Student: Can the practice of Falun Gong allow me to actually achieve spiritual enlightenment?
Teacher: All things are possible through Dafa. Even if you achieve the divine standing of Tathagata, or “Buddha,” that’s still not the upper limit. Ours is a virtuous and true practice, so a much higher divine standing is possible as long as you keep at it.
How the Exercises Are Done and How They Work
Student: After they learn The Falun Method of Circulating Energy exercise in class and return home, some people have vivid dreams where they are floating in the sky. What’s that about?
Teacher: I can tell you that when you see things like that while you are meditating or dreaming, it’s not imagined or just a dream. It is the result of your soul having left your body, which is quite different from dreaming. You won’t see things so clearly or in such detail when actually dreaming. But when you have an out-of-body experience, whatever you observe or whatever floating up you experience, will seem very real and will leave a lasting impression on you.
Student: If one’s falun becomes deformed, will there be bad consequences?
Teacher: If that happens it means that the person has gone off track in his or her practice, and so the falun will have lost its effectiveness. And as a consequence, many problems will come about in his practice. It’s like choosing to wander the back alleys and losing your way, instead of just going down the main street in town. Problems will then ensue in one’s practice, and this will translate into issues in one’s daily life as well.
Student: When we do the exercises on our own at home, how can we make sure that our surroundings are clean? Can we have a falun stay in our home?
Teacher: Many of you have seen the presence of falun in your homes, and your family members have benefitted from this. As I have mentioned, many overlapping dimensions co-exist at the same time and place. This is true in your home, too, and so it needs to be cleansed. Generally this is done by clearing out any bad things in other dimensions and installing a shield, so that nothing bad can find its way in.
Student: When doing the exercises, why do I feel soreness and swelling when energy hits the lesion in my body?
Teacher: Illness manifests as a cluster of dark energy, and during the early stage of our classes, when it is broken down and dispersed, you will feel swelling around your lesion. But the root cause has been removed and the dark energy dispelled. And once that energy has dissipated, the ailment will be gone.
Student: My old health problems disappeared a few days into the class, only to relapse a few days later. What happened?
Teacher: Your progress in this spiritual practice goes so fast that an individual stage might pass in a very short period of time, and you might not even notice it. And your health problem might in fact be resolved, without your even knowing it. Any relapse that you experience afterwards is the coming of “ordeals” that I’ve talked about. If you take a close look at the symptoms, you will see that they aren’t exactly what they were before. And they won’t be something that an energy healer could fix for you, were you to try. For the ordeals are a reflection of your karma acting out as you mature spiritually.
Student: Is it necessary to still take medication, now that we’re practicing?
Teacher: You should think this over and come to your own conclusion. Taking medication while on the spiritual path would seem to suggest that you don’t believe in its healing power. Why would you take it, otherwise? If you don’t try to develop your character as we have taught, you will likely run into problems later on. And then you might blame me for not letting you take it, if I suggested that now. But then you haven’t followed my suggestion to sincerely work on your character, have you? The body of someone who truly practices in our system carries things that are superior to what a regular person’s body contains, and none of the diseases or ailments that they experience are allowed to occur in your body. If you have the right frame of mind and you believe in the healing power of our practice, then you might choose to discontinue your medication, and you might choose not to go for any treatment; and yet without those interventions you may find that your illness is taken care of by someone. The health of everyone here is improving by the day, and you are feeling better with each passing day. So what explains that? My spiritual bodies have been busy going in and out of the bodies of many of you. They are helping you out by doing things like healing your body. But if you’re not in the right frame of mind and you are taking a “try and see” approach to the practice, then you won’t get results. Your belief in Buddha or divine beings is a matter of your faith and spiritual makeup. There wouldn’t be any question of belief if a Buddha or divine being were to appear right before your very eyes. Who wouldn’t believe and want to practice, in that case. Believing has to come before seeing.
Student: Is it appropriate to invite you and your students to come and perform healing?
Teacher: I am not here to perform healing. Some people are destined to fall ill. No matter what I say, some of you just still don’t get it, so I’m not going to elaborate on that further. Buddhist practices seek to save people from suffering, and healing is allowed. But when we do healing, it is done in an organized way and meant for promoting our practice. I have only recently taken our practice public, and so I am less well known. So, few people might have come to our classes, due to the low visibility. We have provided health consultations to give the public a sense for how good the practice is. The approach has been rather effective. But this has been for promotional purposes, not for the sake of healing. It’s prohibited to use higher energy solely for healing. You can’t use things of a higher order for secular purposes. If they were abused like that, the effectiveness of the healing would be compromised. Since you are doing our spiritual practice, however, we take responsibility for you, and so we will mend your body to the point that it is free of disease or issues. And this will make it possible for you to progress to higher stages of spiritual practice. But that won’t happen if you are preoccupied with your health concerns and aren’t interested in spiritual development. And though you may not express that verbally, my spiritual bodies will know perfectly well what you are thinking. We have already begun to rebalance your body, right during this class—but only if you are serious about working on yourself spiritually, of course. You won’t see us holding off of healing you until halfway through our class series, so that we can ask for more money from you. We will never do things like that. If your health problems still aren’t resolved, it might well be due to issues with your faith or discernment. Or it might be due to the seriousness of some people’s health issues; the changes taking place in their bodies might not be apparent, even though they’re likely to be significant. In those cases, a one-time rebalancing won’t be adequate, but we will have done our best. It’s not that we don’t want to take care of them; rather, it’s that whatever ails them is just too severe. If they can keep doing the practice afterwards, healing will continue to take place, all the way until their condition is fully resolved. These cases are rare, however.
Student: How can we quiet our minds when doing the exercises? Is it considered an attachment, when I’m doing the exercises, if I’m thinking about the challenges I’m facing in the role I’ve assumed [at the practice site]?
Teacher: You should keep your thoughts pure and peaceful most of the time, and not be occupied with worldly concerns. If you knew when ordeals were coming and could get mentally prepared in advance, they wouldn’t serve their purpose. They usually come suddenly and out of the blue, and only that way can your character be accurately assessed. But you will definitely be able to get through them if you can stick with the practice and not waver. First you need to get rid of attachments, improve your character, let go of resentment toward others and competitiveness, and ensure that your thinking is pure. Only then does peace of mind become possible. If even then you can’t get your mind to quiet down, you can try to look at yourself as a third party, and regard the noisy thoughts as someone else’s. Even if it feels like stormy waves tossing you up and down, you can distance yourself from the commotion. Let them do their thing. Some people suggest as a solution chanting the Buddha’s name or doing counting. But those are just techniques. In our exercises we don’t use any techniques that focus our thoughts on anything specific. But neither should you let your mind drift off. As for the challenges in the role you’re assuming, it’s not an attachment since it is not about your own personal gain. It’s good that you are trying to be responsible. I know one Buddhist monk who is adept at handling this kind of issue in spiritual practice. He is a temple abbot and has many responsibilities. But once he sits down to meditate, he is able to set everything aside. I can assure you that it takes mastery to be able to do that. When one is really, truly meditating or doing energy exercises there will be no trace of self and no distracting thoughts present. You should be able to handle the challenges in the role you’ve assumed well if you don’t have impure intentions mixed in.
Student: What should we do if bad thoughts arise while we are doing the exercises?
Teacher: There might be a range of bad things that sometimes surface when you are doing the exercises. You have just begun the practice, and so the stage of spiritual development you have reached isn’t that advanced just yet. So we don’t have overly high expectations for you at this point. It wouldn’t be realistic to ask you to not allow a single bad thought to enter your mind. You will get to that point gradually. It’s all right if there are bad thoughts initially, but don’t let your mind run wild. Your plane of thought will elevate with time. Yet you should hold yourself to higher standards now, since you are practicing the Great Way. After this class you won’t be the same as the common man. The things you now have in your body are so special that you have to be particularly disciplined with your thoughts.
Student: When I do the exercises it feels like my head and abdomen are spinning, and my chest doesn’t feel right.
Teacher: That’s a phenomenon at the initial stage that is caused by the falun’s turning. Those issues are likely to go away later on.
Student: What should we do if small animals are attracted by our doing the exercises?
Teacher: That’s something that can happen with any form of energy exercise, so just ignore them. Don’t worry about it. It has to do with there being a field of positive energy. Many practices, and particularly Buddhist ones, have elements to them that benefit all living things. When our falun turns clockwise it benefits oneself, and when it turns counterclockwise it benefits others. It turns back and forth, over and over, so everything around us benefits.
Student: When we’re doing the exercise Channeling Energy from the Two Cosmic Extremes, does moving the hand up and down once count as one time? When doing Buddha Extending Numerous Arms, should I imagine myself being large and tall before I stretch out my arms?
Teacher: Yes, it counts as one time when each hand has moved up and down once. Don’t imagine yourself any particular way when you do Buddha Extending Numerous Arms. You will naturally feel large and tall. You just need to stand there with a general idea that your body is so large that you dominate everything around you. But you shouldn’t be trying to elicit something or some vision, because that would indicate attachment.
Student: When doing the meditation, what if I can’t get my legs into the lotus position?
Teacher: If you can’t get your legs into position you can do the meditation by sitting on the edge of a chair, and it will be effective just the same. But anyone doing this practice has to work on getting their legs into the correct position. You can start by sitting on the edge of a chair, and gradually work on getting your legs into the lotus position. Eventually you have to do the lotus position.
Student: If family members do bad things and don’t follow zhen, shan, ren, what should we do?
Teacher: If your family members don’t practice Falun Gong, then it’s not your duty to fix things. You should focus on perfecting yourself. Just work on your own issues and don’t make things overly complicated by thinking too much. Try to go easier on others and put more effort into developing yourself.
Student: In daily life I sometimes do the wrong thing and regret it, but then I do the same thing again. Is this due to poor character on my part?
Teacher: The very fact that you asked this question shows that your character has matured to the point where you can see what you’ve done wrong. The average person doesn’t even realize it was a mistake when they’ve done something wrong. So it means that you as a person are better than many others. You let down your guard and made a mistake, but it’s a process, and takes time. Try to do better next time.
Student: Will people in their forties or fifties still have time to experience “three flowers gathered at the crown ofthe head”?
Teacher: We work on both the mind and body, so age makes no difference. As long as you stay committed to the practice and follow the teachings on character and the mind that I’ve set forth, your life will keep being extended as you keep practicing. So that should give you enough time, right? But there is one caveat, and this is especially so for those who have had their lives extended through our mind-body practice: as soon as you have any lapse in character, your life will immediately be put at risk. That’s because your life was extended for purposes of spiritual development. So your life will be in imminent danger if problems with your thinking or character develop.
Student: How much strength does “gently, but with inner strength” refer to when we’re doing the exercises?
Teacher: You have to find the right balance for yourself. For example, when doing the mudras, even though your arms may appear pliant, you actually need to apply force as you move them. The force applied to the forearm and wrist, as well as the fingers, is quite significant. Yet your movements will look gentle even though you have to apply a bit of force to perform them. That is what’s meant by “gently, but with inner strength.” When I teach you how to do the mudras, I deliver something special to you to help achieve this. It will be something that you gradually get the hang of as you practice.
Student: Are sexual relations between men and women unnecessary? Should young people divorce?
Teacher: We talked about lust earlier. We haven’t asked you, at this stage, to start living a life of abstinence, like a monk or nun. It’s you who wants to do that. But what is key is to work on getting rid of your attachments! You have to let go of every attachment you have. For ordinary people lust is just one form of desire and something one can hold onto, but for us it’s something we have to be able to let go of and care little for. Some people are just obsessed with sex. Their minds are so dominated by it that even by normal standards it would be considered excessive—and even more so by the standards of those who do spiritual practice. It’s okay for now to just go about things normally in your marriage if your spouse doesn’t practice. When you reach a higher stage of practice you will know what to do.
Student: Is it okay to doze off when doing the meditation? What should I do if this happens? I sometimes pass out for as long as three minutes and I don’t know why this happens.
Teacher: Falling asleep is a problem. How could sleeping during the exercises be okay? If you fall asleep during meditation it is the work of evil entities meddling with you. You said “pass out”? That won’t happen. Maybe it’s that you didn’t write your question clearly? If your mind goes blank for three minutes that’s no big deal. People who have the ability to enter into deep meditation often have a blank mind. But it is a problem if you frequently lose all awareness.
Student: Is it true that anyone who is determined to achieve true divine standing can do so? What if the person’s spiritual makeup is somewhat lacking?
Teacher: It all depends on how determined you are. That’s the critical factor. Even for people whose spiritual makeup is somewhat lacking, it still depends on their determination as well as their discernment and faith.
Student: Can I do the exercises when I have a cold or fever?
Teacher: My take on this is that you will be free of sickness after these classes, hard as it is to believe. Then why do our practitioners sometimes have the same symptoms as those of a cold or fever? In those instances the person is going through an ordeal, through hardship, and it means that it’s time for him or her to progress to the next stage. Many have figured out for themselves that the symptoms will eventually pass if they just let it be.
Student: Can pregnant women practice Falun Gong?
Teacher: Yes, it’s no problem for them, because the falun is bestowed in another dimension. Our practice doesn’t have any strenuous movements or poses that might be harmful to a pregnant woman. The exercises are beneficial to them, in fact.
Student: When you are away from us, will the physical separation cause problems for us?
Teacher: Many have similar concerns, and wonder what they should do if their teacher is no longer with them in their city. But it’s the same situation with any practice, in that one’s teacher can’t look after adherents on a day-to-day basis. I have taught you the Way of the universe and its inner workings, and I have taught you our exercises and bestowed you with all that you need for our practice. All that’s left is for you to do your part, that is, to put it into practice. It’s not that being by my side guarantees that all is well, while being apart doesn’t. Just consider the example left by the Buddha’s followers. It has been more than two thousand years since the Buddha’s passing, and yet his followers still carry on the practice with dedication. It’s up to you whether to do the practice or not.
Student: Will doing Falun Gong result in inedia?
Teacher: No, it won’t, because inediais a method from the Great Dao practice, which predates Buddhism and Daoism; it dates back to before the formation of the two religions. The method is often used in conjunction with practice done in solitude. Back when the Great Dao was practiced, there was no support system involving monks and monasteries. Its followers would practice in isolation way up in the mountains, with no food provided to them. Furthermore, its followers needed to practice in solitude, staying stationary in one spot for six months to a year at a time. And so they adopted the approach of inedia. It’s not necessary to take that approach nowadays in our practice. It’s just a method that is used under special circumstances, and definitely not a special ability. Some people are teaching it these days. But if you ask me, I think it would disrupt people’s way of life if everyone in this world just stopped eating. That would cause serious issues. If everyone could survive without eating, would this still be a human world? That’s not allowed, and not how things should be.
Student: How far can the five exercises take us?
Teacher: The five exercises suffice for you to progress to an extremely high point, spiritually. As to which exact point you are supposed to reach through your practice, you will know at a certain time along the way. Since there is no limit to our practice, once you have made certain advanced achievements, you might find that your destiny is to reach still higher stages, in which case a higher state of practice may then come to you.
Student: If “the Way works upon us” and “the falun is always rotating,” do these imply that we don’t actually need to do the exercises?
Teacher: The approach used in our practice is different from the one used in monasteries. While those in monasteries do focus on training the mind, they still need to practice meditation. It’s a skill that needs to be developed, and one can’t expect to develop energy without any meditation or energy exercises, or to gain energy on top of the head, without doing either. To me, omitting those wouldn’t count as doing the work of spiritual practice. Every practice has its way of passing things down, which then must be developed through exercises or meditation.
Student: Someone who does a different practice claims that practices that don’t use the mind to direct things are not legitimate. Is that true?
Teacher: People make all kinds of claims, but nobody has explained the Great Way to you as I have. In the Buddhist school of teachings, action-methods are not considered that advanced. “Action-methods” don’t refer to physical movements or positions; otherwise, meditation and jieyin would count as those. So the size or scope of movements or positions isn’t what matters. What separates action-methods from inaction-methods is the use of the mind to direct things, that is, intentions. If you have those, then you have attachment and that’s the action-method. That’s what “action-method” refers to.
Student: Character is not the same as virtue. You said that virtue determines a person’s level of achievement, but then you said that the level of character determines the level of one’s higher energy. Is there a contradiction?
Teacher: Maybe you didn’t quite catch what I meant. The concept of character encompasses many things, including being virtuous. It also includes being forbearing (ren), the ability to endure hardship, spiritual clarity and discernment, how you deal with interpersonal things, and more. All of those have to do with character and relate to the development of higher energy and virtue. So character has bearing on a wide range of things. How much virtue you have doesn’t tell how much higher energy you have. Rather, it suggests how much you might develop later on. For virtue to be transformed into higher energy you must go through tests that perfect your character.
Student: If several members of a household do more than one type of energy practice, will they negatively affect one another?
Teacher: They won’t affect you. But I can’t say whether they will affect one another. Nobody will be able to bother you, since you do Falun Gong. On the contrary, they will benefit from your practicing. since ours is a true and virtuous practice, and you won’t go off-track.
Student: There are all sorts of things out in the world, like chain letters. What should we do if we get something like that?
Teacher: I can tell you that those things are pure deceit. Don’t forward those letters. They’re silly. You can just ignore them. You can tell that they’re corrupt with just a glance. Remember that our practice has strict expectations for your character. Some teachers of energy practices treat these practices like a commercial good that can be sold for money, so I refer to them as “qigong peddlers.” They don’t have anything legitimate to teach; or even if they do have certain lesser abilities, they’re not very advanced. And some of them even teach evil things.
Student: What should someone who’s learning Falun Gong do if they previously converted to Buddhism at a temple? Should they rescind it?
Teacher: It’s not a big deal. You merely converted in name, not in substance.
Student: A few of us have felt like our heads are swollen and dizzy since starting to attend the class.
Teacher: It might be because you are new students whose bodies haven’t been fully adjusted. The energy that I emit is powerful. Your head might feel swollen when pathogenic energy is being driven out of your body. That happens when we are treating something that’s wrong with your head, and it’s a good thing. The quicker it’s eliminated, the stronger the physical reactions. It used to be too intense for some people when we held seven-day classes, and shortening it further would only cause more problems since the energy sent out is powerful and the reactions are really strong. Some people could hardly take it, their heads felt so swollen. Spreading out the classes over ten days is safer. Those who miss the first class or two will have reactions that are a bit stronger.
Student: Can we still smoke or drink after we take up the practice? What if we have to drink due to the nature of our jobs?
Teacher: Here’s how I look at it. The Buddhist energy practice that we do prohibits the consumption of alcohol. If you still have cravings after going without it for a while, then you can try weaning off it little by little. But don’t let it drag on for too long, or there will be repercussions. As for stopping smoking, I think it’s a matter of willpower. Provided you’re determined to quit, you can. Typically a non-practitioner might say to himself, “Today I’m going to quit,” only to relapse a few days later. Then after a couple of days pass he wants to try again, and quits once more. And on it goes, without success. Living in the secular world, one can’t avoid socializing with others or entertaining guests. But since you have taken up spiritual practice, you shouldn’t consider yourself to be just like everyone else. As long as you have the willpower you will achieve your goal. Of course, some of my students have yet to quit smoking. They can usually manage to refrain from smoking when they are on their own. But when someone else offers them a cigarette they find it awkward to decline. Plus, they do still have a desire to smoke; it’s hard for them to go a couple of days without smoking. Yet if they do try to smoke again, that doesn’t feel good either. They should be exercising self-control! Some of you might work in customer relations, where one frequently wines and dines clients. That’s a trickier situation. Do your best to drink as little as possible, or see if you can think of a way to handle it.
Student: Before we have the ability to observe the spinning motion of the falun , if I use my mind to direct it and have it spin the other way, when it happens to be spinning counter-clockwise, will that negatively affect it?
Teacher: The falun spins on its own. It doesn’t need your thoughts to direct it. Let me reiterate: do not use your mind to direct it. And truth be told, you wouldn’t be able to even if you tried. Don’t think that you can use your mind to force it to turn in the opposite direction; the falun located at your lower abdomen isn’t controlled like that. The falun that are used externally to adjust your body, however, might accept your direction if you want them to rotate in a certain way. This might make you think that you can direct them. But let me tell you: don’t do that. You shouldn’t be using your mind like that when you practice. If you could practice like that, then it would mean that a human could develop higher things. But it is the falun that refines you; it is the practice that does the work for you. Why are you still unable to let go of the idea of using your mind to direct things? No spiritual practice, even Daoist ones, use the mind like that at higher stages of practice.
Student: What’s the best time, location, and direction to do the Falun Gong exercises? How many times a day is appropriate? Is it okay to do them right before or after eating?
Teacher: The falun is circular and is a microcosm of the universe. Our practice follows the laws of the universe, and the universe is in motion. And we should remember that it’s the practice that does the work for you. When you aren’t doing the exercises it does the work for you, unlike with any other approach to spiritual development that has been made public. Mine is the only system where the spiritual way is doing the work for you. All other methods use the approach of forming an energy cluster, and they rely on human effort to develop energy and form an energy cluster. But we don’t need to do any of that. You can do our practice at any time of day, and when you aren’t practicing, the practice does the work for you. So there is no need to be selective about the time. Do the exercises more when you have more time available, and less when you have less. Our practice is pretty relaxed in this sense, but we do have strict expectations for your character. Our practice isn’t concerned about which direction you face, either. Whichever direction you choose to face is fine. Since the universe is revolving and in motion, if you stand in the west initially, it might not be west anymore shortly after. Or if you stand in the east initially, it might not be east anymore later on. I’ve only asked my students to face west when they exercise as a show of respect. But it doesn’t affect anything, in fact. You can do the exercises anywhere, inside or outside of your home. But I still think that we should find a place with relatively good ground, surroundings, and air quality. And it should be at a distance from unclean things like trash cans or bathrooms. Nothing else matters much, though. In Dafa we aren’t concerned with time, location, or direction. And you can exercise before or after meals. But if you practice right after a big meal, you might not feel good, so it’s best to take a break first. But on the other hand, if you are so hungry that your stomach is rumbling it will be hard to focus while doing the exercises. So just decide things based on your circumstances.
Student: Is there anything we need to do after finishing the exercises, [like in other energy practices,] such as rubbing the face?
Teacher: After doing the exercises we don’t have to worry about the negative consequences of drinking cold water or things like that, nor do we need to rub the face or hands. Those things are meant to unblock the body’s energy channels and acupuncture points, and are done in more elementary practices. We practice the Great Way, which requires none of those things. Your body is no longer in the initial stage where it’s undergoing transformation. It is quite challenging for the body of a non-practitioner to be changed into that of a practitioner, and some practices can’t even accomplish this in a straightforward way. So what they require of people is quite involved. We have none of that, nor do we follow the same logic. Don’t concern yourself with things that I haven’t talked about—just focus on your spiritual development. Since we practice the Great Way, within just a matter of days your body will have passed through the initial stage, where one would normally have to be concerned about all sorts of things and follow all sorts of do’s and don’ts in relation to one’s body. What we achieve in a few days might take other practices years of effort, though I won’t speculate on a specific number. Things that are more elementary—such as facing in a certain direction, using a specific meridian, or whatnot—are beneath our scope of teaching. We teach higher things. The practice of Dafa, like with any true practice, is about working on yourself spiritually, not just doing exercises.
Student: Can we use the bathroom right after we’ve finished with the exercises? There is a lot of foam in my urine. Is energy leaking out?
Teacher: That’s not a problem. Since ours is practice of a higher order, our urine or excrement does contain energy, but it’s just a small amount and not consequential. Practitioners of the Great Way should aspire to benefit the lives of others. So that little leakage is no big deal; what you gain from the practice is much more. The energy that I emit while teaching a class like this is so powerful that the residue is all over the walls of the lecture hall afterwards.
Student: Can we spread and promote Falun Gong? Can we teach it to people who didn’t attend your classes? Can people who haven’t attended the classes participate at the practice sites? Is it all right to mail audiotapes and books to family or friends who live elsewhere?
Teacher: You won’t go wrong spreading our practice and helping more people to benefit from it. I have shared many spiritual insights with you, so that you have a better understanding of the practice, gain knowledge of higher planes, and get exposure to higher things. I’ve pre-taught things beyond your current stage so that you won’t be surprised or confused when you actually encounter them. You can teach people the exercises, but you don’t have the ability to bestow a falun. What’s done, then? I have said that if you practice halfheartedly or hardly practice at all, my spiritual bodies will leave you. But if you are serious about the practice, they will take care of you. So when you teach someone the exercises, the energies from my teaching will be with you, and can bring to the person the energy mechanism needed for forming a falun. The person you teach will manage to form a falun if they practice in earnest. And if the person has the destiny for it and a good spiritual makeup, they might get a falun right on the spot when you are teaching them. Our book is very thorough. A person can still do well at the practice even if they haven’t been taught in person.
Student: Are breathing techniques taught as part of Falun Gong? How do we regulate our breathing?
Teacher: When you practice Falun Gong there is no need to regulate your breathing, nor incorporate any breathing techniques. Those belong to introductory practices, so it’s not needed in our practice. That’s because regulating one’s breathing is used to increase energy circulation and feed the fire for smelting an energy cluster. Those things about breathing in an upstream or downstream style, swallowing saliva, and so on, are all about forming an energy cluster, which we don’t do. Everything that you need is provided by the falun. The higher or more difficult things that need to be done for you will be accomplished by your teacher’s spiritual bodies. There is no system of practice where higher spiritual things are developed by relying on human effort and thought—including even Daoist ones, which get into those things in greater detail. In reality it is the practice’s supreme teacher who helps one to forge and develop those things, without one knowing it. You couldn’t possibly achieve those things with your own effort, unless you have achieved spiritual enlightenment and have all possible powers available to you.
Student: Do we need to use mind concentration methods when we do the exercises? Where should our attention go?
Teacher: We don’t use mind concentration methods in our practice, and I’ve never asked you to do that. Instead, we ask you to let go of attachments. So we don’t have any specifics for using your mind or attention. In the third exercise, where the two hands move energy so that it courses between the cosmic extremes, all that’s needed is one brief thought before you start. You don’t need to think of anything else.
Student: Is gathering energy the same as amassing qi ?
Teacher: What would we want to amass qi for? What we practice is the Great Way, and later on you won’t have any qi to project. What we work on isn’t to get more qi, which is something lower. Instead of qi, what we emit is light. Energy is gathered by the falun, so we don’t need to do that intentionally. The exception would be something like Channeling Energy From the Two Cosmic Extremes. But it’s not about amassing qi. The exercise serves to flush your body with energy, and it also has the effect of gathering energy—but that’s not its main purpose. As for amassing qi, it could easily be done by someone practicing Dafa. With but a wave of your hand you could immediately feel pressure atop your head, as a lot of qi could instantly be made to gather there. But what good would it do you? In our practice, you don’t need to gather energy intentionally.
Student: Does Falun Gong include “building a foundation in one hundred days” and “embryonic breathing”?
Teacher: Those are used in elementary practices, and we don’t use them. You have long since passed through the unstable, beginner stages.
Student: Is Falun Gong concerned with the balance of yin and yang?
Teacher: That’s still about working on qi, and it’s a lesser approach. When one has gone beyond the stage of qi practice there is no longer a concern about the balance of yin and yang in the body. Regardless of which system you practice, as long as you receive genuine instruction from a master, I can assure you that everything you previously developed will be discarded as soon as you complete the lower stages of practice. Nothing is kept! And then a new group of things is developed during the new stage of practice. And when that stage is passed, another group of things is again developed, and so on. That’s how it goes.
Student: Can we do the exercises when it thunders? Should someone who does Falun Gong be concerned about loud sounds like that while practicing?
Teacher: Let me tell you a story. There was one time when I was teaching some students in a large courtyard in Beijing. It was going to rain and it was thundering loudly. The students were doing some exercises that were only taught to a select few, which involved walking atop wooden stumps laid out in a falun pattern. I saw that rain was coming, yet they hadn’t finished the exercise yet. But the rain wasn’t able to fall. The clouds were hanging very low, rolling violently above the buildings, while thunder struck hard. It was awfully dark, with lightning flashing and thunder booming. A bolt of lightning even struck the perimeter of the falun pattern, but none of us were harmed in the least. It clearly scorched the ground where it struck, yet we went unscathed. This tells us that our practice gives us protection. When I practice I usually disregard what the weather is like, and just practice if I want to. As long as there’s time, I practice. And I’m not worried about being startled by sounds when I practice, either. Other methods do have to worry about those things, though. That’s because when you are in a deeply calm, meditative state and suddenly hear a loud sound, you will feel the energy all over your body flicker and rush out explosively. But don’t worry, our practice won’t go awry like that. Nevertheless, it’s best to find a quiet place to practice.
Student: Should we visualize our teacher’s image?
Teacher: There is no need to do that. When your third eye is open you will see my spiritual bodies beside you.
Student: Are there any requirements to follow when doing the five exercises? Do they all have to be done together? Can we count the repetitions silently when doing those that require nine times? Will it be counterproductive if we do more than nine or don’t remember certain movements accurately?
Teacher: You can do whichever of the five exercises you’d like, but I think it’s best to do the first one before the others since it unblocks the entire body. If you do the first exercise first, then, after your body is prepped, if you go on to do the other exercises they will be more effective. If you have a lot of time on hand you can practice longer, or if you have less time, practice less, or pick only one of the exercises. The movements in the third and fourth exercises should be repeated nine times each. Even though the book says you can count the repetitions silently, you should try the following out at home. Ask your child to stand nearby and count for you while you do the exercises, and after doing nine repetitions you’ll find that you don’t sense the energy mechanism anymore. That’s how my things work. You only need to think about it a little in the early stage, and then, when you become familiar with the exercise, it will stop naturally at the right spot. If you don’t remember some movements correctly or do too many or too few repetitions, just correct things and it should be fine.
Student: Why is it that ending the movements doesn’t end the energy work?
Teacher: The falun turns on its own, and it knows what to do the moment you stop the exercises. It has an enormous amount of power and can instantly take back what was released outside your body, much better than you ever could intentionally with your mind. This isn’t ending the energy work, but just taking back in energy that’s around your body. In other practices the energy work stops the moment you stop exercising. Yet in our practice the energy continues to work on you even after you stop exercising; so the energy work can’t be ended. You couldn’t stop the falun’sspinning even if you tried to. You might not be receptive if I were to discuss this on a deeper level. But supposing you could stop its rotation, then you would be able to stop my work here. And is it possible for you to stop what I’m doing?
Student: Can we perform standing meditation with our hands in the Jieyin or Heshi positions?
Teacher: The first exercise, Buddha Extending Numerous Arms, can’t be used as a standing meditation. And if you overdo the stretching you might run into problems.
Student: Should we keep the underarms open when we do the exercises? When doing the first bit, my armpits feel tight. Why is that?
Teacher: Do you have a pre-existing condition? You might experience a variety of phenomena during the initial stage when your body is being adjusted. You might experience some symptoms, but they won’t be due to the exercises.
Student: Can people who haven’t attended Teacher Li’s classes practice together in the park with those who have?
Teacher: Yes. And any of my students can teach people how to do the exercises. Although, when students teach people the exercises it’s not the same as my teaching you in person, where I directly adjust your body. But there are people who gain a falun as soon as they take up the practice, for my spiritual bodies are behind the student teaching the exercises, and they can do things like that directly. It all depends on the person’s destiny. If his destiny is strong, he can get a falun right on the spot; while if it’s not as strong, he can still develop the revolving mechanism by practicing on his own for a while. And if he continues to practice, that mechanism will be transformed into a falun.
Student: What do the mudras in the Strengthening Higher Powers meditation mean?
Teacher: It cannot be explained using our language. Each mudra contains a wealth of meaning. The general idea is something like this: “I am about to start the exercise and practice the Buddha’s Way. My body is adjusting in order to enter the optimal state for practice.”
Student: When a person achieves a translucent white body, is it true that all pores of the body have been opened and that this leads to whole-body breathing?
Teacher: Check your own body now. You should be able to tell that you’ve already passed that stage. For your bodies to achieve the translucent white stage, I have to give over ten hours of teaching, which is the minimum time required. In other practices it may take a dozen years, several decades, or even longer. Yet we can bring you to this point in one go. That’s because no improvement of character is required for this step; it hinges on your master’s powers. You most likely went through this stage without even sensing it; it probably lasted just a few hours. You might have found that one day you were particularly sensitive, but then a short while later you weren’t. What’s really behind that phenomenon is that you just went through a major stage of practice. Yet in other practices you would have stayed in that state for a year or more. But all of these things belong to a more elementary level.
Student: Is it all right for us to think about each of the movements of Falun Gong’s exercises while riding the bus or waiting in line?
Teacher: Our exercises don’t require you to direct or visualize things with your mind, nor to practice for a set length of time each day. For sure, the longer you do the exercises for, the better. But when you don’t do them, the practice still does the work for you. That said, at the initial stage it is better to do them more, as it strengthens the mechanisms. Here’s a true story that seems telling. A student of ours was on a business trip for a couple of months. He wasn’t able to practice due to his busy schedule. Yet after he returned, he found that there wasn’t any negative impact. The falun was still spinning. That’s because it never stops. It will keep working as long as you remember that you’re a practitioner in your mind and you act with integrity. But there’s one thing: the falun will dissolve if you don’t do the exercises and you confuse yourself with everyone else.
Student: Can a person do both Falun Gong and Tantric Buddhism?
Teacher: Tantric Buddhism does have dharma wheels as well,48 but you can’t practice it together with our spiritual discipline. If you have practiced Tantric Buddhism and have dharma wheels that have formed, you can keep doing it since it’s another virtuous form of practice. But you can’t practice the two simultaneously. The Tantric dharma wheels are used to develop a central energy conduit. And they spin horizontally. So they differ from our falun. Those wheels have mantra on them. Our falun is placed vertically in the lower abdomen, with the flat side facing out. With such a limited space at your lower abdomen, it will be fully occupied by my falun alone. Another dharma wheel placed in there would throw everything into disarray.
Student: Can we practice other Buddhist disciplines along with Falun Gong? Can we listen to audiotapes of Bodhisattva Guanyin’s name being chanted? Can lay Buddhists still chant scriptures after taking up Falun Gong? Can we do exercises from other practices at the same time?
Teacher: I think not. Each practice is a distinct spiritual discipline. If you want to really do spiritual practice, and aren’t just in it for healing and wellness, then you must commit to one single discipline. This is a serious matter. Progressing to higher stages of practice dictates that you stick to just one discipline. This is absolute. Even different Buddhist disciplines can’t be mixed together. The practice that we do is quite advanced, and it has been handed down over many ages. It’s not something you can evaluate just going by what you feel. Seen from other dimensions, the process of transformation in our practice is extremely profound and complex. It’s like a precision instrument, where if you remove just one component part and replace it with something different, it will instantly stop working. The same goes for spiritual disciplines in general: nothing else should be mixed in. Things are bound to go wrong if you add things in. Whatever the practice, you must commit to that practice alone if you ever want to achieve anything. Otherwise your practice is doomed to fail. The saying, “Borrowing the best from each practice,” only applies when it’s just at the level of health and fitness. Doing that won’t take you to higher stages.
Student: Will we be affected if people are doing another practice nearby when we exercise?
Teacher: It won’t negatively affect you as long as they are doing a true and virtuous practice, whichever tradition it may be—whether it’s Daoist, Western religious, or Buddhist. And neither will you negatively affect them. It’s beneficial for them to practice near you. That’s because, unlike the energy cluster in other practices, the falun is an intelligent entity that can help others on its own.
Student: Can we ask masters of other energy practices to rebalance our bodies? Will it affect us if we listen to talks by other masters?
Teacher: I believe that after this class you will have a good idea of how much your body has changed. At a certain point, sickness will no longer be permitted in you. And while you might still experience what seems like a cold or abdominal pain, etc., it won’t be the same thing. They will be trials and tribulations, rather. Then, at that time if you seek out a master for energy healing, it means that you have not understood what I’ve taught or haven’t believed in it. If your motive for doing the practice is off, you will attract negative influences to your practice. And if the energy of the master that you ask to heal you comes from his being possessed, then you might attract those entities, too. The same goes for listening to others’ speeches: doesn’t your desire to listen reflect the wrong motives on your part? You’ll have to figure out for yourself what those are. There’s a problem of character here, but I’m not going to intervene. It may not be a problem if the master talks about character and higher spiritual things. But you’d be putting your body at risk, which we went through so much effort to adjust and rebalance during our class. You may have started out with a jumbled mess of influences from other practices in your body, which fouled it all up. Everything has since been adjusted to an optimal state, with the bad things removed and the good things kept. That being said, I have no objection if you want to study other practices; if you don’t like Falun Gong, you can go and learn something else. But I think it’s a bad idea to mix practices together at the same time. You have started to do a profound spiritual practice, and my spiritual bodies are right by your side. It makes no sense to downgrade after learning something so advanced and to then go looking for something lesser!
Student: If we do Falun Gong can we still learn other things like massage, self-defense, One-Finger Zen, and Tai-chi? If we don’t actually do them but just read books about them, will that negatively affect us?
Teacher: It’s all right to learn massage and self-defense, but it might not feel right when you have to show aggression sometimes. One-Finger Zen and Tai-chi are forms of energy practice. If you learn them you will be adding their things into your practice, and it will taint what I have put into your body. It’s all right for you to read books that are grounded in good character. But some authors draw conclusions before they have figured things out, and those might confuse you.
Student: My hands sometimes touch when I’m doing Holding the Wheel in Front of the Head. Is that okay?
Teacher: Don’t let the hands touch. You need to keep a small distance between them. If the hands touch, the energy on them will go back in.
Student: When doing the second exercise, if we can’t hold the arms up the whole time, can we put them down to rest and then resume?
Teacher: Spiritual practice is tough. If you put your arms down when they hurt, it will undo your efforts. The guideline is this: the longer the better. But you should do what’s within your means.
Student: When females do the full-lotus position, why is the left leg underneath the right one?
Teacher: Because our practice takes something fundamental into consideration: the female body is different from the male body. So if women want to transform their innate body, they need to practice in a way that takes into consideration the female body. For women it’s usually the left leg that supports the right, which suits how their bodies are. Men do the opposite, as they have a different physical makeup.
Student: While we do the exercises, is it okay to listen to an audiotape of music, or to recite the verses?
Teacher: If it’s decent Buddhist music then you can listen to it. But in true spiritual practice you don’t want any music, since your mind needs to become quiet. We use practice music, though, so that there’s just one thing on your mind, replacing countless others.
Student: When doing Channeling Energy From the Two Cosmic Extremes, should one’s body be relaxed or be tense and tight?
Teacher: In Channeling Energy From the Two Cosmic Extremes, you need to stand naturally and relaxed, unlike with the first exercise. The body should be relaxed in all of the exercises except the first one.
Developing Character
Student: I want to measure up to the standard of zhen, shan, ren. But yesterday I dreamed that I was arguing intensely with someone, and I tried to restrain myself but couldn’t. Was the dream meant to help me develop my character?
Teacher: It sure was. I’ve told you what dreams are, so you can think it over and come to your own conclusion. The things that are meant to help you develop your character will come suddenly and unexpectedly. They’re not going to wait for you to get mentally prepared and then embrace them. To check whether someone is doing well, you have to test them when they’re not expecting it.
Student: Does the ren of Falun Gong’s “zhen, shan, ren” mean that we should be patient and forbearing with everything, including even things that aren’t right?
Teacher: The ren I teach about involves forbearing in situations where you stand to lose out, or where you have to let go of things you are very much attached to, so as to improve your character. Ren shouldn’t be seen in a negative light, even by the average person. I’ll share a story with you. Han Xin was a great general. He was fond of martial arts from a young age. Like many martial artists back then, he preferred to a carry sword on him. One day when Han was walking down the street, a thug stopped him on the street, and said, “What are you carrying a sword for? Do you have the guts to kill a man? If you do, I dare you to go ahead and kill me.” Then he stuck out his neck and challenged him, asserting, “If you don’t, you’re going to have to crawl under my crotch to get past me!” And that’s exactly what Han did—he chose to crawl through to avoid the conflict, demonstrating that he had great self-mastery. Some people think that those who practice self-restraint are cowards and easy to push around. But the truth is, those are people with strong willpower. When trying to determine if something is right or not, you have to go by the laws of the universe. For example, you might think that you shouldn’t shoulder the blame for some incident because someone else provoked you and started it. But in reality, you don’t know the reason behind what they did. You might think you do know the reason, feeling like, “I do know, it was just about something trivial.” Well, I’m talking about a different reason, which can’t be seen in this physical dimension. Let’s entertain an idea: maybe you owed someone in a past life. With that possibility factored in, you can’t tell in a straightforward way whether what the other party did to you is right or wrong. So we have to exercise self-restraint, or ren. But it hardly counts if you are exercising self-restraint only after retaliating. You should not only exercise restraint toward those who really anger you, but even feel thankful toward them. Suppose your classmate smears your name and tells the teacher on you. Well, you should still say “thank you” to him in your mind. Now that might sound to you like only something a glutton for punishment would do. But that’s your own, limited perspective. If you handle the whole thing differently from how others might, then you have elevated in character. In this dimension, they may come out on top, but they are giving things away to you in another dimension, right? In addition, your character has grown from it, and some of the black matter you have will be reworked for you. So you’ve gained in three ways. What’s not to feel thankful for, then? This might not make sense to the uninitiated, but I’m not talking to them. I’m addressing people who lead lives of spiritual discipline.
Student: People who aren’t experiencing entity attachment can improve their character in order to prevent it. What if somebody is currently dealing with entity attachment? How can he get rid of it?
Teacher: Good is a far greater force than evil. Now that you have learned our teaching, you should reject anything those entities might offer you, however seemingly beneficial. You might have been delighted when they brought you money, prestige, or some kind of material benefit, and you thought you were really something; and you might have even shown off around people. But when they made you feel unwell, you wanted to reject them, and now you ask me to help remove them. How come you didn’t do that when they did things that benefited you? We cannot take on your case, because you accepted it when they were doing things to benefit you. You can’t have your cake and eat it too. The issue can only be resolved if you reject them in your mind and disregard the benefits they bring you, and just practice spiritually according to the methods I have taught you. Once you get your mindset right and become firm in your resolve, they will start to feel the pressure and become fearful of you. Plus, if you reject what they do to benefit you, then it’s time for them to go. If they refuse to leave at that point, then they are doing something evil, and I have grounds to take on your case and wipe them out with a flick of the wrist. But I can do nothing for you if you accept what they are doing to benefit you.
Student: Will people bring entity attachment upon themselves if they practice out in the park?
Teacher: I’ve said it many times: ours is a virtuous spiritual practice, and good is a far greater force than evil! In true practice the mind is pure, and no entities can get on you. The falun is an incredible thing. With it, evil things will not only have no way to attach to you, but will fear your presence. If you don’t believe me, you can try practicing in their location, and you’ll find that they are all afraid of you. So many people are possessed that you would be frightened if I were to disclose an exact number. There are people who continue to do some practice or other even after their initial goal of healing or fitness was achieved, but what’s their motivation for continuing? Incorrect motives will usually bring them the kind of problem we were just discussing. But it’s not entirely their fault, as they didn’t know what harm would ensue. One of my reasons for teaching to a wide audience is to address issues like these.
Student: What supernormal abilities will we develop later on?
Teacher: I don’t want to talk about that. Each person’s situation is different, so it’s hard to say. Different abilities will be developed at different stages in one’s practice. The critical thing is how your character is at each stage. If you have let go of a certain attachment during your process of character development, then you might develop a corresponding supernormal ability. Yet any such abilities will be elementary, and not that advanced. If your character isn’t very far along, abilities cannot be given. In our classes, though, some individuals do have quite a good spiritual makeup. So some have developed the power of walking with magic feet and can travel in other dimensions, so rain cannot fall on them. And some have the ability of telekinesis.
Student: Does “perfecting character” or “getting rid of all attachments” refer to achieving what Buddhists call “emptiness” and Daoists “nothingness”?
Teacher: What we mean by the terms “character” and “virtue” aren’t encompassed by the Buddhist idea of emptiness or the Daoist concept of nothingness. It’s vice versa, rather: the Buddhist idea of emptiness and the Daoist concept of nothingness are encompassed by what we refer to as character.
Student: Will a Buddha always remain a Buddha?
Teacher: After you have attained the Dao and achieved spiritual enlightenment, you will be divine—that is, the being of a higher plane. But there’s no guarantee that you will never again do anything wrong. Of course, one normally wouldn’t do wrong in a higher realm since one would be able to see the reality of existence there. But if one does anything wrong, one will fall just the same. And if one keeps handling everything well, one will stay there forever.
Student: What does it mean for someone to have “great spiritual aptitude”?
Teacher: The determining factors are as follows: a good spiritual makeup, terrific discernment and faith, tremendous fortitude, few attachments, and an indifference to worldly things. That’s what it means to have great spiritual aptitude. People like that are few and far between.
Student: Can people without a great spiritual makeup develop higher energy if they do Falun Gong?
Teacher: People without a good spiritual makeup can still develop higher energy, or gong, because everyone has some amount of virtue. It’s not possible to have no virtue at all; there’s nobody like that. And even if you don’t have much white matter, you do still have black matter. It can be transformed into white matter through spiritual practice. It just takes an extra step. During your spiritual practice, you endure hardship and elevate your character. Since you put in those efforts, you will gain higher energy in return. But doing spiritual practice is the prerequisite. Then the master’s spiritual bodies can transform your white matter into higher energy.
Student: If a person’s entire life has already been pre-determined when he is born, then can he change anything by striving for success during his lifetime?
Teacher: Of course he can. Yet his striving for success is also part of the plan. It’s only natural for him to strive hard since he’s a regular person. But major things in one’s destiny cannot be changed.
Student: When our Third Eye hasn’t been opened, how can we tell whether the influences that come to us are good or bad?
Teacher: It’s hard for you to determine that yourself. Many things are planted along the way on your spiritual journey that are meant to test your thinking. The protection given to you by my spiritual bodies is to prevent life-threatening danger. They aren’t likely to get involved in things that are meant for you to overcome, resolve, or figure out. When negative influences come, these might take the form of telling you what number to pick for today’s lotto, which could be accurate or inaccurate; or they might tell you other things. In any event, the point is to see how you handle it. If your thinking is right, no evil will be able to meddle with you. Keep your thinking straight and there won’t be any issues.
Student: Can we do the exercises when we feel upset?
Teacher: If you are in a bad mood it will be hard for you to sit down and quiet your mind. Negative thoughts may fully occupy your mind. Negative influences can play a role when you do the exercises, and when bad thoughts are going through your mind, you are adding negative influences into your practice—which is like inadvertently doing a wicked practice. One may have learned exercises from a famous teacher, from an accomplished master, or from a “living Tantric Buddha.” But if a learner doesn’t strictly discipline his or her mind in the way that they’ve been taught, then they are not doing that practice, even if it was taught to them. Let’s imagine the following scenario. Suppose you are practicing the standing meditation to the point where your arms are extremely tired, but your mind is still active, and thinking, “So-and-so at my company is so nasty. How could he lodge a complaint against me?” or “What can I do to get a raise?” or “I need to go shopping, as prices are going up.” Then aren’t you unknowingly doing wicked practice? So it’s best not to do the exercises if you are in a bad mood.
Student: What is the standard for “extremely high character”?
Teacher: Character is developed through spiritual practice and there aren’t any set standards you can reference. You need to figure out the specifics for yourself. But if you feel you have to have a standard for how to go about things, then it would be as follows. When you run into challenges or need to deal with something, you can ask yourself: “What would a holy being do in this situation?” The kinds of exemplary figures that people normally look up to aren’t going to provide a template for those on the spiritual path.
Student: If we shouldn’t scrutinize and be skeptical toward the lectures or talks that qigong masters give, how can we keep ourself safe from the con artists who cheat people out of money?
Teacher: That’s not necessarily what you should do. You should first take a look at what they say, and then judge for yourself whether you are encountering a con artist. You can tell whether a qigong master is virtuous by looking at his or her character. As I explained before, it is character that determines how much higher energy a person has.
Student: How do we get rid of our karma or, as Buddhism calls it, our “karmic debts”?
Teacher: Spiritual practice by nature gets rid of one’s karma. The best way is to work on your character. Doing so can convert the black matter that one has into white matter, virtue, and it will in turn be transformed into higher energy.
Student: If we practice Falun Gong, are there any precepts to follow?
Teacher: The majority of the precepts in Buddhism prohibit things that we shouldn’t be doing either. But we have a different approach. We aren’t monks or nuns and we live in the secular world, so it’s different for us. With respect to certain things, it’s enough to simply not care too much about them or take them too seriously. Of course, as the strength of your energy keeps growing and you reach extremely high levels of practice, what will be asked of you spiritually will likewise be extremely demanding.
The Third Eye
Student: Teacher, while you were teaching, I saw a three-foot golden halo above your head, and there were many golden halos behind you the size of your head.
Teacher: This student’s Third Eye is at quite a high level.
Student: I saw golden light in the alcohol spray that was spit out by your students when they were doing healings for people.
Teacher: I’d say that this person has done quite well in his or her practice. They could even see the powers released by my students.
Student: Will it have any negative effect on a child if his Third Eye is open? Does he lose energy through his open Third Eye?
Teacher: It’s easy for children who are six or younger to have their Third Eye opened. But if a child doesn’t do spiritual practice, he will lose energy if his Third Eye is open. So someone in his family has to practice in order for it to be replenished. It’s recommended that the child look through his Third Eye once a day, as this will prevent it from closing, while also preventing too much energy from leaking out. But it’s best if the child can do spiritual practice himself. Frequent use of the Third Eye will result in excessive energy leakage. The negative impact won’t be on the child’s physical body, but on his most fundamental things. Yet if it’s properly managed there won’t be any negative effect. What I am talking about applies only to children, not adults. Some people have a Third Eye that’s wide open and they don’t need to be concerned with energy leakage, but they can’t see things in higher dimensions. And then there are people who can see higher dimensions, but when they are using the Third Eye, a highly accomplished master or his spiritual bodies provide them with energy. So it’s not a problem.
Student: Teacher, I saw a golden aura around your body, which assumed your physical shape, but it disappeared after just a moment. What happened?
Teacher: That was my spiritual body that you were beholding. While I’m speaking here I have a pillar of energy on top of my head, and that’s how it is at my level of spiritual attainment. What you saw disappeared quickly because you don’t know how to use your Third Eye yet. You were using your physical eyes.
Student: How can we utilize the supernormal abilities that we have?
Teacher: I think it would be a problem if you used the supernormal abilities that you have for things like the defense industry, high-tech purposes, or espionage. Our universe has a nature. If you utilize your abilities in a way that aligns with its nature, they will work. If you don’t, they won’t. And even if a person with them were asked to do something good, he still wouldn’t be able to accomplish things in higher dimensions, because it would require powers beyond his reach. At most, he would only be able to sense or see the things in higher dimensions. It would be fine for such a person to perform some minor miracles, as it wouldn’t alter the normal course of events in this world. But if he wanted to change something major, he would need to put in great effort to have a big impact. Yet whether it was his business to enact that change would not be up to him. That’s because the normal course of events in this world is not subject to man’s will. He may want to accomplish something, but he doesn’t have the final say.
Student: How does one’s consciousness go in and out of one’s body?
Teacher: What we refer to as one’s “consciousness” usually goes out through the crown of the head. Of course, it’s not limited to going out that way; it can go out through any spot. It’s not like what some practices claim, that it has to go out through the crown of the head. It can leave the body from any location. The same goes for entering the body.
Student: I saw red light in the area of my Third Eye, with a black hole in the center. Layers of light unfolded like flower petals opening up. Is my Third Eye opening? I also saw sparkling and bolts of light.
Teacher: When you see sparkling, the Third Eye is close to being opened. When you see a bright flash of light it is almost entirely open.
Student: I saw red and green halos around Teacher’s head and body. But I couldn’t see anything when I closed my eyes. Was I seeing them with peripheral vision?
Teacher: It wasn’t peripheral vision. It’s just that you don’t know how to see with your eyes closed, so you could only manage to see with them open. Often people don’t know how to use their Third Eye after it has opened. They will sometimes see things in other dimensions accidentally when their physical eyes are open, but when they want to take a closer look, they start to use their physical eyes, and so whatever it was disappears again. When they aren’t consciously trying they might see it again.
Student: My daughter sees rings in the sky, but she can’t describe them that well. We asked her to take a look at the falun emblem, and she says that that’s what it is. Is her Third Eye actually open?
Teacher: Children who are six or younger can have their Third Eye opened just by glancing once at our falun emblem. But that won’t work for you as an adult. Children can come to see in that way, however.
Student: Teacher, I don’t know how to use my opened Third Eye. Would you please explain?
Teacher: When the Third Eye has completely opened you will know how to use it, even if you didn’t know before. At that time it will be very bright and easy to use, and you will easily be able to figure out how to use it. Often people observe things through their third eyes when they are not intentionally trying to see anything. But once they want to take a closer look at what they just saw, they unknowingly switch to their physical eyes and use the optic nerve. They will then find that the vision they were seeing disappears.
Student: When our Third Eye is open, will we get to see the entire universe?
Teacher: There are levels at which the Third Eye might be opened. In other words, how much of the true state of things you can see depends on your Third Eye’s level. You won’t necessarily be able to see all of the universe when your Third Eye opens. But the level at which you see will gradually elevate as you progress spiritually, all the way until the day of your enlightenment. At that point you will be able to see more dimensions of existence. But even then there is no guarantee that you will see the true picture of the whole universe. The Buddha was constantly moving up spiritually during the course of his preaching, so every time he progressed to a new level he would no longer feel sure about what he had taught previously. And as he progressed higher spiritually, he would find that what he taught before, at a lower stage, was no longer true. That’s why in the end he said, “There is no Dharma teaching that’s definitive.” Each realm of existence has its own laws. So even the Buddha couldn’t perceive the whole universe as it truly is. From the perspective that most people have, it would be hard to imagine someone who practices in the secular world attaining even just the spiritual rank of Tathagata. For that rank is all that most people know of. They know of nothing higher, nor could they accept that there is something higher. But the rank of Tathagata is but a minor one in the system of Buddhist practice. I often mention that, “All things are possible through Dafa,” and that’s exactly referring to the endless higher ranks one can achieve.
Student: Do the things that we see on your body really exist?
Teacher: Of course they do. All dimensions are formed by some kind of substance, which may have a different kind of material composition from ours.
Student: I have premonitions about the future that often come true.
Teacher: That’s the ability of “foretelling” that we have talked about. It’s actually a beginning stage of the power of knowing fates. The higher energy that we develop exists in another dimension, where space and time as we know them do not exist. No matter how far apart—in terms of time and distance—two events in this dimension may be from each other, they may correspond to the same spot in the other dimension.
Student: Why do I see people, the sky, and other images appearing in multiple colors as I practice?
Teacher: Your Third Eye has opened. What you’re seeing belongs to another dimension. Other dimensions are separated according to their ranks, so what you saw might have been just one of those layers of different dimensions. They’re very beautiful.
Student: I heard a loud sound while doing the exercises and it felt as if my body had burst open. I suddenly understood many things. What happened?
Teacher: Some of you are more likely to experience that, and it’s just that energy blasted open part of your body and you attained partial enlightenment in a certain, specific area. It’s something that happens to people on the path of gradual enlightenment. While on that path, part of your body is burst open and unlocked every time you finish a round of spiritual development in one of its phases. What you experienced is typical.
Student: Sometimes I feel immobilized. Why is that?
Teacher: During the initial stage of the practice you might experience this: all of a sudden you find that you can’t move your hand or some part of your body. Why is that? It’s because you have gained an ability called the power of immobilization, which is one of your innate abilities. It’s quite powerful. Suppose someone committed a crime and was fleeing the scene. All you would have to do is say, “Freeze!” and instantly the person would be immobilized.
Student: When can we start giving treatments to people with medical problems? I used to do that and had good results. Can I still give someone a treatment if they come to me for one, now that I’ve begun learning Falun Gong?
Teacher: I don’t want any of you who are in this class, at your current, early stage of practice, to give treatments, regardless of what kind of practice you did previously, how long you did it for, or whether you were at the point where you could heal people. That’s because I don’t think you realize where you are at spiritually. Sure, you might have given treatments before. And it may have even been effective due to the virtuous thoughts you had or because you were helped out by a master-in-passing who appreciated your good intentions. But even if the little bit of energy you gained from practicing before can enable you to do healing, it won’t be enough to protect you. When you do a treatment for someone, you share in the same energy field with the ailing person. And if you keep giving treatments, their dark energy will accumulate in your body over time and make you sicker than they are. If you ask the ailing person whether they’ve recovered, they are likely to say, “It’s a little better.” Then how does that count as healing? Some supposed qigong masters will tell their patient, “Come back tomorrow and then again the day after. We’ll do a series of treatments.” They even need to resort to a “series” of treatments, like a hospital would. That would seem like conning people, wouldn’t it? It would be far better if people like this put off trying to heal others until they reached a higher level of spiritual attainment. Then they would have a one hundred percent success rate. I think that would be much more gratifying! If you have developed gong of a higher order, and it is absolutely necessary that you do healing for someone, then I will unlock your hands and bring out your ability to heal. But I think you’d best avoid doing that if you want to progress to higher stages of spiritual practice. Some of my practitioners are doing healings because we want to promote our practice and take part in certain events in society. But they are by my side and are receiving guidance from me, so they are protected and will be fine.
Student: If we’ve developed supernormal powers can we let others know?
Teacher: It’s not a problem if you tell others who practice Falun Gong, provided that you are modest. The reason we have you practice together with others is so that you can share experiences and discuss things. Of course, if you run into others who don’t do our practice but who have supernormal powers, you can tell them, too. It doesn’t really matter as long as you don’t brag. There will be problems if you brag about how powerful you are. And if you keep bragging like that, over time your powers will disappear. But if you merely want to talk about qigong phenomena and discuss things, and there aren’t inappropriate intentions mixed in, there won’t be any issues.
Student: Buddhists emphasize “emptiness” and Daoists “nothingness.” What do we emphasize?
Teacher: The emphasis in Buddhism on “emptiness” and in Daoism on “nothingness” are unique to their disciplines. Of course, we too need to reach similar spiritual states. We focus on practicing proactively while gaining higher energy passively. We strive to work on our character and get rid of attachments, so the end result is a state of emptiness or nothingness just the same. But we don’t emphasize that specifically. You need to make a living and have a career since you live in the secular world. You have things to do. And for anything you intend to do, it’s necessary to evaluate whether it’s a good thing to do or a bad thing that should be avoided. So how do we do that? We focus on perfecting our character and our thinking. And that’s the most prominent feature of our practice. As long as your heart is in the right place, the things you do will meet our standard, and your character will be sound.
Student: How can we tell if our supernormal abilities are growing?
Teacher: During the initial stage of your practice, if you have already developed special powers, you will be able to sense them growing. And if you haven’t already developed them, but you do have a sensitive body, you will be able to sense that they are now growing. If neither is the case, then there is no way for you to tell and you’ll just have to keep practicing in the dark. Sixty to seventy percent of my students have their third eye open. I know they can see. They just keep their mouths shut while keeping their third eyes wide open. And why do I ask you to practice together? It’s because I want you to share experiences and discuss things with others in the group. But you should act responsibly to our practice and not speak loosely outside of the group. Sharing experiences among ourselves and improving together is fine.
Student: What do spiritual bodies look like? Do I have them?
Teacher: A person’s spiritual bodies look the same as that person. You don’t have them at this point in time. You have to wait until your spiritual development reaches a certain level, where you have completed the phase of practice within the Three Realms. Spiritual bodies will only develop when you have progressed spiritually to a very advanced stage.
Student: Teacher, after the class has finished, for how much longer will your spiritual bodies stay with us?
Teacher: A beginner student will have to undergo enormous transformation when practicing something like this, that’s so advanced right from the outset. I’m not referring to the changes in just his thinking, but to his entire person. If a common person suddenly receives something he’s not suited to have, he’ll be put in danger, and his life will be at risk. So my spiritual bodies must provide our students with protection. If I couldn’t provide such protection and yet I insisted on teaching the spiritual practice as I am doing here, then it would amount to ruining the learners’ lives. Many qigong masters are hesitant to teach spiritually and do what we do. It’s because they can’t shoulder the responsibility involved. Yet my spiritual bodies will protect you right up through to the day of your enlightenment. But if you stop the practice midway, they will naturally leave you.
Student: Teacher, you said that a regular person’s spiritual progress hinges on his character development, not on the amount of energy exercises that he does. Can we interpret this to mean that a person whose character is highly developed can achieve spiritual enlightenment without doing any energy exercises?
Teacher: That’s correct in theory. As long as you develop your character, your virtue can be transformed into higher energy. But you have to act like a spiritual practitioner for that to be possible. If you don’t, you can only amass virtue. You might end up with a great deal of virtue. But if a regular person only tries to be a good person and amass virtue, even if he acts like a practitioner, he still won’t attain anything spiritually, because he won’t have learned a way of spiritual practice that leads to higher realms. As you know, I have revealed many things to you. But without my protection, it would be hard for you to progress spiritually to a higher realm. In fact, it would be impossible for you to even do advanced spiritual practice for a day. So it’s not all that easy to attain enlightenment. But back to your question, if you can at least elevate your character, you will still be able to attune yourself to the nature of the universe.
Student: How does long-distance healing work?
Teacher: It’s simple. The universe can expand or shrink, and supernormal powers are able to adjust as needed, similarly. While remaining right where I am and not moving, I can send out powers that have the ability to reach ailing people as far away as the United States. I could either send out powers to where the person is or directly summon his soul to where I am. That’s how long-distance healing works.
Student: Can we know how many supernormal abilities we will develop?
Teacher: There are tens of thousands of abilities that exist. The exact number isn’t important. What matters is to understand the principles and methods in this practice. What’s left after that is simply for you to carry it out. It’s not necessary for you to know the specifics. It might not be good for you, in fact. Traditionally a spiritual teacher would choose a student himself, and guide them. But the student wouldn’t know or be told what his teacher was doing for him or giving him. It would be left to the student to figure out for himself.
Student: When I close my eyes during the class I can see you teaching on the stage. Your upper body is dark colored, and so is the table, while the curtain behind you is pink. Sometimes I see green light surrounding you. What’s going on?
Teacher: It’s a matter of what level your Third Eye is at. When your Third Eye first opens you will perceive white as black, and black as white. Later, after you make a little bit of progress, everything will appear white to you. And with further progress you will see things in full color.
Going Through Ordeals
Student: Are the ordeals we go through tests that were put in place by our master for his students?
Teacher: You could say that. They are put in place to perfect your character. Suppose your character hasn’t reached the point that it’s supposed to: how could you be allowed to attain spiritual enlightenment, then? It would be like sending an elementary school student to college. And would that work? I don’t think so! Suppose you were allowed to go to a higher dimension at a point when your character hadn’t been truly perfected, when you still couldn’t take things lightly, and when you couldn’t forsake many things. Then you might get into a feud with the higher beings there over something trifling. And that wouldn’t be allowed to happen! So this is why we emphasize character.
Student: What’s the difference between the ordeals that a practitioner faces and those that everyone else goes through?
Teacher: There’s not much difference. Your ordeals are planned according to your spiritual journey, while the common person, during his ordeals, is merely paying off the ordinary karma that he has. In both cases, there are ordeals to overcome. So it’s not that you have ordeals just because you do spiritual practice, and the common person doesn’t have them because they don’t practice. They will have ordeals just the same. It’s just that yours are designed for the purpose of perfecting your thinking and character, whereas theirs are designed to pay off karmic debts. Truth be told, the ordeals that you go through result from your karma, and I am utilizing them to perfect you spiritually.
Student: Are our ordeals similar to the eighty-one ordeals that Tang Monk went through in Journey to the West on his quest for the Buddhist scriptures?
Teacher: There is some similarity. A practitioner’s life has been planned in advance. You won’t have even one too many ordeals nor one too few, and there won’t necessarily be eighty-one of them. It depends on how far you can progress with the spiritual makeup that you have. Your ordeals are planned according to the spiritual heights that you have the potential to achieve. Practitioners must go through the process of forsaking everything worldly and everything that is inappropriate for them. It’s tough, to be sure. We will do whatever it takes to make you let go of everything you cling to, and the ordeals that you go through will serve to perfect your character.
Student: What should we do if someone is trying to disrupt our doing the exercises?
Teacher: In Falun Gong you don’t have to be concerned about disruptions. In the initial stage my spiritual bodies will be protecting you. But that doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t encounter any trouble at all. It’s not like you’ll see your energy growing while you just lounge around all day on the couch, sipping tea. There might be times when you are going through an ordeal and call out my name, and you see me right before you, yet I may not help you. That’s because the ordeal might be something meant for you to overcome. But I will help you if and when you are in real danger. Real danger normally won’t come about, though, since your path has been altered and nothing random or destructive is allowed to happen to you.
Student: How should we approach the ordeals that we face?
Teacher: I have emphasized it again and again: don’t compromise on your principles! It’s pretty good if you can at least manage to not mishandle the situation. And that’s especially true when it’s a case of somebody trying to shortchange you for some reason. If you fight back like the average person might, then you are no better than them. But yours is a spiritual life, and so you shouldn’t handle things that way. The things you go through and that may really try your soul are meant to perfect your thinking and character. You will be tested to see what approach you take, and whether you can stay true to your principles and elevate spiritually through it all.
Dimensions and Humankind
Student: How many dimensions and planes are there in the universe?
Teacher: From what I know, there are countless dimensions and planes in the universe. Current scientific means are ill-equipped to verify the existence of other dimensions, let alone verify who or what might be found in them; modern science has yet to find solid evidence for the existence of other dimensions. Yet some of us qigong masters and people with extrasensory abilities can see them. That’s because other dimensions can only be seen by the third eye, not the human eye.
Student: Are the qualities of zhen, shan, and ren found in every dimension?
Teacher: Yes, the qualities of zhen, shan, and ren are found in every dimension. Those who align with these qualities are good people, while those who go against them are bad. And anyone who can manage to become one with these qualities is a divine, or enlightened, being.
Student: Where is humankind from originally?
Teacher: The universe originally didn’t have as many vertical and horizontal dimensions as it does now. It was quite uniform initially. As it developed and evolved over time, life came into existence. Those are what are known as “the original lives.” They were one with the universe, and they had no impurities. Being one with the universe meant that they were the same as the universe, and had whatever capacities the universe itself had. As the universe developed and evolved further, heavenly paradises came about. And over time, more and more life forms came into existence. In the language of this lesser dimension, we might say that communities came into being—where lives would interact with one another. As things progressed, some beings underwent changes and deviated from the qualities of the universe further and further. Their powers weakened as they became less pure. This is why some religious traditions have stressed “returning to one’s original state of purity,” or in other words, one’s earliest state of being. The higher the dimension, the more attuned a being is to the universe and the more powerful their abilities. It came to be that some beings became worse as the universe developed, but they had not declined to the point where they would be annihilated. And thus great consideration went into how to give them a chance to elevate spiritually and once again accord with the universe. They were thus sent to a lower dimension where they would experience hardship and be able to elevate spiritually. With the passage of time, the dimension that was created for this purpose came to be occupied by an increasing number of lives. So later on a yet lower dimension was spun off from the initial one, which befit the lives from the initial dimension whose character had declined to the point that it was no longer suitable for them to stay there. And so the process went on, with lower and lower dimensions being spun off, until the dimension that the human race today occupies was generated. And that is how humankind originally came to be here.
